Exciting Planning Success on Oxford Street! 🏢✨ Our planning team is pleased to share a key milestone in the ongoing transformation of 415-419 Oxford Street. Working alongside our collaborators, Bidwells have secured planning permission for a bold, double-height storefront, unlocking a flagship retail space for a high-profile tenant. ❔The challenge was clear: find a way to balance the retailer’s need for impact with the Council’s design preferences. Working hand in hand with architects, Resonate Interiors, we built a clear design narrative, accompanied by robust justification to demonstrate the need for double height frontage in this location. We demonstrated why the design wasn’t just desirable but essential and how a bold frontage wouldn’t just serve the tenant by significantly enhancing brand presence and visual impact - it would enhance the vitality and viability of Oxford Street as a world renowned shopping destination. The result was a swift approval with minimal planning conditions, allowing the retailer to move forward without delays to deliver the enhanced landmark shopfront for Oxford Street. Collaboration was key, and we’re proud to have worked alongside: 🔹 WILLSON GREEN LIMITED – Strategic commercial advice 🔹 RESONATE INTERIORS LIMITED – Architect 🔹 Rider Levett Bucknall RLB – Project management 🔹 Sandy Brown – Acoustic consultant 🔹 Banyards – MEP 🔹 Infinite 3D – CGI visuals Oliver Fountain Jonathan Bainbridge #Bidwellsplanning #OxfordStreet #retaildevelopment

  • DEFRA’s Sudden Closure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive Puts Industry at Risk 🚜✳️ The sudden closure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme, with no notice, is a major setback for the farming industry. Farmers had invested significant time and effort into preparing for the expanded 2024 offer, only to be left in uncertainty. While we’re told the scheme will reopen, details remain scarce, further eroding trust in government support at a time when confidence is already low. As Guy Bicknell, Partner in Agriculture and Environment, comments: "The sudden closure of the scheme, with no notice, is a major blow to the farming industry. DEFRA has long promised a partnership with farmers to build a sustainable future - yet this decision puts that in jeopardy." With delinked payment reductions, rising costs, and falling commodity prices, this decision adds financial strain and could negatively impact mental health across the sector. Yet, despite this uncertainty, the scheme was already delivering real environmental benefits, supporting sustainable land management, and helping farms transition towards a greener future. Now, the hope is that DEFRA listens to the industry and brings it back in a way that supports farmers, the environment, and the public in the long term.
