I never considered hiring an outside consultant to support me when I was in-house, but I wish I had, particularly in those tough firms. Years before stage, I knew I wanted more and felt guilty for saying that out loud. I got training and certifications and attended #legalmarketing conferences. I moved up in title at each firm. Each of those steps left me wanting. Wanting something bigger, greater, more. MORE. MORE. MORE. I was searching for a purpose but didn't know it. I was looking for appreciation and meaning in my role. Hiring your own #marketing "do-er" who has gone through the exact same Big Law experiences makes all the difference. (Notice that I didn't use the word "coach," as that invokes an image of someone on the sidelines. I am on the field with you.) Sometimes, you have questions and goals you can't share with your boss or colleagues. We talk about your goals. We talk about "your more". Your sessions might be the only time all week when you are the main focus, and it's all about you. What's your more?

Do not be afraid to shout about your assisting work. It's something I come across so often, especially when hiring. Assisting is the best way to break into the creative industry. Through assisting you can: - Get exposure to high end clients - Build relationships with other creatives - Learn on the job without the pressure of being the lead creative - Develop a strong work ethic (Hard work=better work) - Get PAID, this is massive especially if you start assisting whilst at University or something similar. There seems to be a weird taboo around assisting, like it's not "proper" work on set. God knows I could sometimes use a good assistant! If you start assisting, make yourself useful, someone your creative lead can't live without. Then, once you've earned your stripes, put it in your CV and shout about it. A good lead creative will understand the value of a great assistant, and how those skills can set you up for success later in your career.

83% of legal firms hire external marketing firms. [Source: CallRail] But why is this? The main reason is cost. Hiring a full-time, in-house marketing team is expensive, especially when considering benefits and training. Training that is very rare to find in the world of #AI-driven marketing we have today. People become clients largely based on the emotions they feel towards your firm. #AI doesn't understand emotion (yet anyway). Law firms also hire externally because they want to focus on what they do best: solving legal problems for their clients. They prefer to leave the marketing efforts to specialists who can manage them more efficiently, saving time and money. Hiring externally also removes any internal bias (that all companies have). An external marketing firm will not be caught up in this and will solely focus on achieving your business and marketing goals. 💬 Why else might a firm hire an external marketing team?
