Are you a Hospitality Business? If so, are you ready for the Allocation of Tips Act? From 1st October 2024, the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023 comes into force, bringing new rules on how tips, gratuities, and service charges are distributed in the hospitality industry. Whether tips are paid in cash, by card, or through a TRONC system, this legislation ensures that transparency and fairness are at the forefront of every business’s tipping process. What does this mean for your business? To stay compliant, hospitality employers must: ✅ Have a written policy outlining how tips are allocated. ✅ Keep detailed records of how tips are collected, distributed, and shared. ✅ Ensure all tips are paid to workers in full before the end of the month following payment. It’s also important to note that employees now have the right to bring a claim in an Employment Tribunal if these rules aren’t followed. With the deadline approaching, now is the time to make sure your processes are compliant and ready for this change. Need support? We’re here to help. Change is in the air! 🎈 Alongside the buzz of upcoming industry celebrations like the Foodservice Cateys and Hotel Cateys, the hospitality sector is abuzz with speculation. With Labour's recent election victory, what could this mean for our vibrant industry? 🍽️ First off, a Labour government traditionally prioritises workers' rights and fair wages. Expect discussions on a living wage and improved employment terms to take centre stage, which could mean more stable and content workforce in our restaurants and hotels. 🏨 Investment in community and public services could drive domestic tourism, potentially filling hotel rooms and local eateries with new customers. Plus, possible policy changes favouring the environment might lead to sustainable practices becoming not just a trend, but a standard in hospitality businesses. ✔️ For those of us at the front line of service, a promise of support for small businesses might translate into more opportunities for innovation and growth. But as always, we'll have to navigate new regulations and standards that could accompany such a shift. Let's chat below about your thoughts and predictions! ⌨️ How do you see Labour's win influencing your segment of the hospitality sector? #Hospitality #LabourVictory #IndustryInsights

The numbers are shocking 🙄 Only 28% of hospitality businesses are compliant with the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act that comes into effect this October! ⏰ The new legislation is designed to ensure that employees receive 100% of their tips left by customers! According to research by the hospitality tech specialist 'Three Rocks', less than a third of hospitality businesses are currently prepared for upcoming changes. This means many are at risk of legal repercussions if they don't ensure fair and transparent tip distribution and continue taking a percentage of staff tips (a practice that will be illegal under the new law ❌). Although the legislation is introduced with good intentions, the transition isn't without challenges. Compliance costs can be significant, with 83% of businesses expecting to incur costs of at least £12,000 annually, with some reaching up to £360,000. Research also shows that nearly half of hospitality workers have never been informed about how tips are distributed amongst staff, and many feel they should receive more tips. We understand the challenges! That's why we created a free PDF guide to help businesses navigate the Act 🤝 Find out what you're required to do and how to ensure compliance 👉 https://lnkd.in/dVNuVrmB #hospitality #tippinglaw #compliance #serviceindustry #UKlegislation #EmploymentAct #fairtips #tipping #legalnews
