Our organization is dedicated to two primary objectives: first, assisting individuals in safeguarding their creditworthiness and personal information from unauthorized use; second, reshaping the utilization of personal information in the financial sector, including credit reporting agencies. Our secondary goal focuses on addressing the issues related to the sale and unexpected use of personal information by individuals who sign up for services, only to find themselves unable to control the information's use for purposes significantly different from the initial intent. We actively seek volunteers to contribute to these efforts, ensuring that individuals are fully informed when providing personal information to companies, empowering them to make informed decisions. Moreover, organizations such as Improving Credit Canada, Credit Centralized Corp, and Credit Self-Serve Service Credit Wave are actively engaged in helping Canadians combat the misuse of personal information. They aim to reduce the excessive collection and sharing of personal information, a vital step in protecting individual privacy and ensuring data security. Surprisingly, even established institutions like Canada Post have faced fines for misusing personal information by selling data to organizations for marketing purposes without obtaining proper consent. This underscores the critical significance of our mission to raise awareness and protect the privacy of Canadian citizens in the face of such practices. It's important to recognize the substantial revenues generated by major credit reporting agencies, such as TransUnion, with $3.78 billion in revenue for the twelve months ending September 30, 2023, primarily from the collection and sale of personal information that consumers often attempt to expunge. Equifax also reported revenue of $5.137 billion for the same period in 2023. Our position is that individuals, if more aware of the information collection, use, and disclosure of their personal information, which extends beyond the primary use, might be better equipped to make informed decisions. In addition to our efforts to raise awareness and protect personal information, we are actively seeking volunteers who can share their experiences with credit reporting agencies. Your insights and feedback will be invaluable in shaping our efforts to improve the credit reporting landscape and protect your personal information.
