The SNEC-SERI faculty is proud to present the latest issue of Eye-Sight. Here we focus on our youngest patients: babies who need extra care for their eye health. Newborn babies born prematurely may need careful monitoring for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a disease that can have grave consequences for a child’s vision. Other highlights include: · The long-term safety of Atropine eyedrops in myopia control where there is no increased incidence of complications such as cataracts in adulthood 10-20 years later. · How our post-graduate nurses are upskilling themselves to lead thermal treatment for dry eye disease. · Our very first nurse clinician, Nazurah Loh. In an interview, she describes her path to success in nursing. Download a copy of our #EyeSight from our website: https://lnkd.in/gBGcbkiq Happy reading! #SNECSERI #EyeCare #Atropine #ROP #EyeSight

Nurse Leader, Educator, & Innovator; Improving mental health and medical care for vulnerable populations
Durable Medical Equipment Appeal vent ahead. Today, I faced the difficult reality of having one of my patients' essential needs denied by their insurance. For over two months, I have been appealing denials for this child to secure a wheelchair for my patient, only to encounter repeated obstacles. As healthcare professionals, we dedicate ourselves to ensuring our patients receive the best possible care. It's disheartening when barriers prevent us from fulfilling this commitment. Every patient deserves access to the care they need, including children who may have the ability to walk but require mobility devices to prevent high-risk elopement and ensure their safety. Denials not only impact their health but also their trust in the healthcare system. There needs to be a more nuanced and customized approach to patient care, recognizing that each individual's needs are unique. I urge decision-makers to consider the profound implications these choices have on individuals' lives. Let's work together to create a system that prioritizes patient well-being and supports healthcare professionals in their mission to provide exceptional care. #Healthcare #PatientAdvocacy #HealthcareReform #Neurodiversity #ChildSafety #RepealTheAppeal National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Society of Pediatric Nurses Hackensack Meridian Health Autism Speaks Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey American Academy of Pediatrics

Looking at NP jobs on the web, I found a discrepancy that limits the job market for the Adult-Gerontology NP. Many job postings are listed for a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), even by clinics that do not serve the pediatric population. This occurs most likely because many are unfamiliar with the differences of each. Both family nurse practitioners (FNPs) and adult-gerontology nurse practitioners (AGNPs) are advanced practice nurses who provide care for adolescents and adults. Both are certified by board examination to care for the population each serve. The most significant difference between a family nurse practitioner and an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner is that FNPs care for pediatrics/ children (under age 12), while AGNPs care for adolescents through adults.I have attached an article found online that may help dispel the myth that the AGNP can only work in the nursing home.
FNP vs. AGNP: What’s the Difference?
