In honor of Earth Month and in partnership with One Tree Planted, Thuma is committed to doubling our environmental impact. During the month of April, we'll plant two trees instead of our usual one for every purchase of a rubberwood piece. Since 2018, Thuma has partnered with One Tree Planted to support global reforestation efforts in Indonesia, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Australia, Uganda, Vietnam, Thailand, and the United States. Thanks to customer support, we have planted over 400,000 trees and counting.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS A rainforest is a complete set of ecosystems that through various and complex inter-organisms interactions and biological cycles, provides various ecological functions that sustain the livelihood of humans and other creatures. Whether we live in, near, or distant from the rainforest, we need the rainforests to stand and play their functions properly. Rainforests may cover only six percent of the earth’s surface but are home to more than half of the world’s plant and animal species. Rainforests help regulate our climate and provide us with everyday products. They also store large amounts of carbon and produce oxygen. FCF is working closely to support indigenous and local people around the world to protect and conserve the remaining rainforests using their traditional wisdom. Please watch this amazing video from one of our projects, the Lesan River Forest in Berau district, East Kalimantan province, Indonesia, with thanks to our grantee CAN Borneo Indonesia. The project needs support to continue with its work in conserving this amazing rainforest ecosystem, for more information please contact info@fundforests.org.

We recently spoke on promoting environmental and socio-economic sustainable development in Semporna at the Forum on Managing Human Rights and Development Issues through Collaborative Governance in Sabah. Delivered by Senior Marine Conservation Officer Jamie Ng, our presentation delved into the critical topic of the Semporna marine environment, emphasising its exceptional significance and the pressing threats it faces, including fish bombing. Jamie shed light on SIP’s approach to conservation and sustainable use since 1998—a multifaceted strategy combining science, technology, community and stakeholder engagement, awareness campaigns, capacity building, and training—and underscored the importance of aligning our efforts with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SIP’s current work includes assisting marginalised local fishing and island communities in Semporna who lack access to fundamental amenities and services and opportunities for stable and sustainable livelihoods. The forum, organised by the European Union in collaboration with the Semporna District Office and CSO Platform for Reform (csoplatform.com), provided a crucial opportunity to spotlight these communities' issues and obstacles. Local government leaders, Members of Parliament, State Legislative Assembly members, local community groups and other non-governmental organisations joined in the discussions. One recurring theme that emerged during the forum was the need to work towards a sustainable future for Semporna and its marine environment, prioritising both the well-being of the people and the preservation of nature. Our work with communities is generously supported by the European Union in Malaysia (www.eeas.europa.eu) and Yayasan Sime Darby(www.yayasansimedarby.com). #sustainabledevelopment #communityengagement #sdgs #collaborationforchange Photo: CSO Platform for Reform (csoplatform.com)

Protecting water — including our oceans — is one of the most important challenges of our time. In Indonesia, WFF is partnering with Tulodo to protect our oceans by using behavioral science principles. If we understand what drives human behavior, we can promote sustainable fishing practices that benefit people and the planet — ultimately supporting livelihoods and biodiversity for generations to come. 💡🌊 https://ow.ly/WJMn50SxpNt
