This is a big deal: The U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission pledged we would take aggressive steps toward repairing, rehabilitating, and expanding the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant in southern San Diego County. The goal is to show measurable results as soon as possible and help improve the health and sanitation of communities on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. We recently issued a solicitation for the rehabilitation and expansion of this plant, which is a major step forward. As Commissioner Dr. Maria-Elena Giner said: "“Our commitment to advance the improvements necessary to improve water quality is a priority. Many actions are currently underway, such as plant repairs, community outreach, compliance coordination, congressional and administration briefings, among others to ensure solutions are advancing and we are transparent and accountable. We recognize the cost will exceed the current available funding.
