This is Home Fire Sprinkler Week May 12-18, 2024 Fire departments and safety advocates across North America will team up May 12-18 for Home Fire Sprinkler Week to amplify the message that fire sprinklers stop a fire from becoming deadly, protecting residents and firefighters. More than 1 million homes are built each year, and less than 10% are protected with fire sprinklers. Homes without fire sprinklers counters the goals of community risk reduction. Fire safety advocates know, and every year national fire data reinforces, installed fire sprinklers reduce home fire injuries, deaths and property loss. Fire Prevention Week runs from October 6th - 12th this year and the theme is "Smoke Alarms: Make them Work for You!". During Fire Prevention Week, children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Firefighters provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires. Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8th, 1871, and caused devastating damage. This horrific conflagration killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures, and burned more than 2,000 acres of land. As a home and farm insurance brokerage this year agriculture fires and home fires on on the rise. It is important to take a moment and learn about fire prevention. Ensuring fire safety at home extends far beyond the installation of working smoke alarms. When building a new home, ask your builder about home fire sprinklers. When buying a new home, assess the home for fire risks. Our families, including children, pets, elders, and disabled members, rely on us to create a secure environment. In the event of a home fire, they are among the most vulnerable. It's our responsibility to take proactive measures to protect them. Let's not overlook the importance of fire safety in safeguarding what matters most to us! #HomeFireSprinklerWeek #fireprotection #firesprinklers #homefiresafety

Florida maintains an updated database detailing child fatalities in the state, categorized by cause of death along with a description of the incident. Among these records, the database uniquely highlights the number of drowning deaths occurring at short-term rentals. This short video I edited together delves into a fraction of these drowning incidents at such rentals from the previous month. For more information on all cases and their causes, visit the following link: https://lnkd.in/epUKii9v. In my view, all these drownings could have been prevented, mainly through better pool access and supervision. Hosts and property managers can play a crucial role in preventing such tragedies with simple measures like Water Watcher Cards, pool alarms, self-closing gates, and clear signage at every short-term rental featuring a pool. The National Drowning Prevention Alliance offers a free card to download here - https://lnkd.in/e7Cd3Qzz

Firefighters are concerned with getting to their water source fast in an emergency and won’t hesitate to break your car’s windows if it is between the blaze and the hydrant. Delays in rescue time can make a vital difference if someone is trapped in the building. Even the few minutes needed to move your car could mean that someone suffers the deadly effects of a fire. To put out the fire as quickly as possible, the first responders are going to prioritize the active emergency over your personal property. Blocking a fire hydrant isn’t limited to cars parking in front of one. Neighborhood residents may put large trash pick-up items in front of the hydrant, or kids’ toys or other items could block it. Any kind of blockage leads to delays in an emergency response when seconds matter.

In the early hours of Friday morning, a three-alarm fire broke out on Kippendavie Avenue, in the Beaches neighborhood of Toronto. First responders arrived at the scene to find a fully engulfed residential fire that had not only ravaged the home but had also spread to a nearby electric vehicle and two adjacent houses. Fortunately, nine people were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The fire was eventually limited to the house where it originated, but the extensive damage has left three homes severely impacted, with one likely completely gutted. While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proactive fire safety measures for homeowners. At G Force Security, we understand the devastating impact fire emergencies can have on families and communities. That's why our Fire Watch services are designed to provide essential monitoring and immediate response in fire-prone areas. #fireprotection #fireandrescue #firedepartment #fireprevention #firealarm #fire #fireprotectionmatters #carfire #firealarmsystem #firedamage @followers

One of our businesses Check Systems sharing an important article about how quickly a house fire can become a complete catastrophe. Everyone should be optimising their smoke alarm systems for maximum effectiveness.
It is so sad to see stories like this... and there were a few similar incidents like this in the past year. Many homes in QLD are entirely timber and when a fire takes hold the whole house can go up in a matter if minutes. You really need to make sure you have an effective smoke alarm system optimised for safety and ensure your whole family has a plan for escaping the house in an emergency. #besafe #keepsafe #brisbaneproperty https://lnkd.in/ghtkXZeQ

Great article on the importance of taking action on problem properties! The article discusses a long-empty property posing a significant hazard to nearby residents. Despite fines and orders from the city to secure the building, the owners, have not complied. The property has become a magnet for public nuisances and continues to endanger the community. Neighbors with valid concerns are frustrated with the city's inability to effectively address the problem, and experts suggest that placing the property in a health and safety receivership. Thanks for sharing Ryan Griffith!
A good article about Health and Safety Receivership. Health and Safety Receivership is really a great remedy for abandoned fire damaged buildings. Thanks to The Oaklandside for interviewing me about it. This really is a viable remedy to fix many of the fire damaged and abandoned buildings in Oakland. https://lnkd.in/gs4zFw_n
