EUROPEAN PORT ASSOCIATIONS FORM COALITION TO ADDRESS SUSTAINABILITY AND OVER-TOURISM CHALLENGES 🤝
During Seatrade Cruise Med, Klaus Bondam, Director of Cruise Baltic, participated in the panel 'Common Ground: Port Association Dialogue' with colleagues from other European and Mediterranean cruise networks.
At the session's conclusion, the five networks surprised the audience by announcing a new coalition of European port associations consisting of Cruise Baltic, Cruise Norway, Cruise Europe, Cruise Britain, and MedCruise. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in our shared commitment to tackling the pressing challenges faced by the cruise industry, particularly in the areas of sustainability and over-tourism.
The coalition will focus on:
☘️ Sustainability initiatives: Sharing best practices on the adoption of greener technologies, such as shore power, alternative fuels, and waste management solutions, to reduce cruise ports' environmental footprint.
🏙️ Addressing over-tourism: Developing strategies to better manage the flow of cruise passengers in popular destinations, ensuring that tourism remains a positive force for local economies and cultures while minimising pressure on infrastructure and ecosystems.
“Cruise Baltic – who represent 32 ports and destinations in the Baltic Sea – is proud to be a part of this new and strong coalition in Europe. A coalition that will set new standards for the dialogue and cooperation within cruise tourism. For us, responsible cruising is a given. So, is realising that we share challenges with colleagues all over Europe. This is an important step in finding solutions to these challenges, and hopefully, we can serve as an example for other cruise destinations all over the world,” says Klaus Bondam.
We are excited to see this collaboration unfold 👏
