In the final quarter of 2023, Mike Skeggs and I soft-launched The Collaborative Network CIC. As we gear up for our official launch in April, we wanted to share some information about our services. We are a subscription-based community support network and sign-posting service that connects businesses, business leaders and employees together with other professional services to allow an LGBTQ+ focused approach regarding LGBTQ+ matters which arise in the workplace. Our mission is to create a community movement that fosters inclusivity and diversity in the workplace. We provide resources and support to businesses and organisations to help them create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Furthermore, we provide support and resources for those in the wider community who may feel like they are not valued, respected or appreciated in their day-to-day life. Our team are here to connect a community to offer support and acceptance. Having a strategy that supports safety and wellbeing is crucial for businesses with LGBTQ+ employees and clients. However, Pride is exactly that; a movement CELEBRATING the LGBTQ+ communities🌈. It COMMEMORATES years of struggles & oppression, and REJOICES in how far we've come🙌. Admittedly, there's still so much more to do👊. There's still ignorance, bias, stereotype & worse🤬. Our logo will not take on a rainbow tint this June. We might not make the bold posts you're likely accustomed to seeing during #PrideMonth. Its National Inclusion Week (created by Inclusive Employers) and this year's theme is Impact Matters. Here at Reed, members of our Inclusion Working Groups are taking the week to look at the impact our work to date has had so far, as well as the impact we aim to have in the year ahead. As one of our LGBTQ+ Ambassadors I have been able to see the impact of our work in how it affects our co-members on a day-to-day basis. This can be seen nowhere more clearly than in the changes we have made for our trans and non-binary co-members. Over the past few years, we have created, as well as refined and updated a transitioning at work policy, providing support and guidance for transitioning co-members as well as their managers and teams. We have updated all of our policies to remove gendered language wherever possible and made sure to explicitly include co-members of all genders, ensuring we do not unintentionally exclude. I have seen the impact of this in the success of trans co-members who have come into their own both personally and professionally, particularly over the past year, in no small part due to being supported at work. This very direct and personal impact is probably my proudest achievement as a member of our working groups. #ImpactMatters #LifeAtReed #LGBTQ+ #NationalInclusionWeek

As we celebrate Pride Month, let's remember that while rainbow flags and stickers are awesome, they aren't enough. Real allyship means making sure the LGBTQ+ folks in our lives and in our workplaces are safe and thriving. It takes work at the policy and processes level to create inclusive environments. Here are some of the policies and practices that help build inclusive workplaces. Does your company: • Explicitly include “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” in non-discrimination policies, • Provide inclusive benefits for same-sex and different-sex spouses and partners, • Include at least one transgender-inclusive insurance plan, • Have at least one LGBTQ+ data collection effort, • Have an ERG that includes LGBTQ+ and allied employees, • Provide training on best practices for employees undergoing gender transition? Thank you to the Freehold LGBT+ CIC Board for the invite to the fourth LGBTQ+ In Real Estate Conference last Thursday. We talk about being led by data so in that regard thank you to EG and Jess Harrold especially for providing the headlines on the latest survey results. My reflections on what I heard were “bittersweet.” Great to hear of an increase of respondents being out at work (84% versus 76% last year). Although contrasted with only 46% of respondents who are comfortable being out to clients. Whilst it is a personal choice as to how someone expresses themselves at work, it is clear a great many of our fellow professionals in real estate still don’t feel they can be their true selves all the time in a working environment. Fundamentally I believe real estate environment is welcoming and tolerant. We do though need to make sure the environments we spend so much of our lives within are respectful of the choices and beliefs of all. We must call out insensitive or unconscious behaviours when they incur and not let the actions of a few cloud the welcoming and supportive majority.   #LGBTQ+ #RealEstate #DE&I #Allyship #UNITY #CWTakesPride
