Why Culture Wins In Logistics Companies Anyone who has worked in #freightforwarding or #freightbrokerage knows it is not as simple as the job title makes it sound. At times, it’s a high-stress #career filled with many moving pieces, dealing with the unexpected, and working extremely hard just to stay competitive every day. Teams composed of various roles have the potential to either, make it a positive place even when the work is challenging or to make it unbearable when pressures of the job can be magnified under the wrong team culture. A well-developed #team that executes consistently and works well together creates leverage in a business like nothing else can. I, for one don’t have to worry much about Entrepot Cargo's daily operations in the Mumbai office when I am not in town. I know they’re going to do what they need to do. That’s a cool feeling as a CMD, waking up every day and knowing all is good.” The thing I learnt early on is that great culture is important for two reasons: 1) It helps retain great #talent in a tough job 2) It drives an #industry that can’t be run by people who are not invested. People coming into the industry nowadays want to align with a place that has #purpose and aligns with their #beliefsystems. Culture has shifted in the Zoom era. The one way to connect people to build a bond is through a goal and purpose that they can buy into. Logistics companies that have strived to create the right culture in the last 40 years are standing out because of it. Emirates SkyCargo, DHL, GlobalTranz, and Worldwide Express come to mind as having done this well, and there are no doubt others. Often, it’s a matter of taking the ideals that the company had when they company began as a small startup and focusing on continuing and growing these aspects, as a part of the company’s identity. “It doesn’t matter what technology you build in the logistics space, this industry is still very relationship-driven. I owe a debt of gratitude to two remarkable individuals who served as my mentors: Monique Brister During my tenure, I focused on prospecting and acquiring accounts within the automotive sector. Navigating through decision-makers and securing a spot on their vendor list was pivotal. Monique, entrusted with managing the vendor list for much of the auto industry, became a vital contact. Our frequent correspondence, both via email and LinkedIn, blossomed into a meaningful professional relationship. Monique's recent promotions attests to her exceptional execution and leadership skills, serving as an enduring inspiration for me. Sean Mathews Assigned to a client with a limited budget, I faced the challenge of brokering a truck with minimal funds. Despite the constraints, Houston's robust trucking capacity provided opportunities. Unbeknownst to me, Sean Mathews held sway among owner-operators and asset communities in the area. Sean, a seasoned logistics professional, emphasized the importance of nurturing strong relationships within the trucking industry. His insights, garnered outside the confines of my company, proved instrumental in navigating similar situations effectively. My tenure at Arrive Logistics was immensely fulfilling.
