We don’t invest in underrepresented founders... we invest in amazing founders 🦄🚀 Appropriate representation is a social-political responsibility. This is very important, but it is not Identity's mission. At Identity, we invest in LGBTQ+ led companies because we are convinced that this is a very smart investment decision 😉 📈 Why? Innovation thrives on breaking norms. The LGBTQ+ community has a long history of challenging norms and reshaping many areas, from arts to entertainment. We bring this transformative power to the business world 💼🏳️🌈 💡 Research backs us up - diverse teams are not only more innovative but also more financially successful. And if our investments help increase appropriate representation of LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, then that's a great side effect 💪 #LGBTQ+ #Innovation #Investing #Diversity #DEI

I've had the privilege of meeting many inspiring LGBTQ+ business leaders over the past few months. However, I've noticed a common theme in our conversations. Many of these leaders express feeling like they're on the outside, not part of the traditional straight, white male networks. But when I ask how they leverage their own LGBTQ+ network, I often get silence. Digging deeper, it becomes clear that they actually have a strong queer network, but they're not tapping into it enough for business purposes. Not to mention that they are working on actively expanding and utilizing their LGBTQ+ network. It's time to stop lamenting about not being part of certain networks and start utilizing the power of our own LGBTQ+ business networks. They're stronger than we realize. Let's make the most of our connections and support each other in our professional endeavors. #LGBTQ+ #BusinessNetworking #SupportEachOther #LGBTQLeaders #LGBTQEntrepreneurs #IdentityVentures

We know from the data that diverse teams perform better. A BCG study found that diverse leadership teams drive more innovation, and McKinsey’s research shows these companies are more likely to outperform their peers financially. But, despite this, 75% of LGBTQ+ founders and 79% of LGBTQ+ VCs still feel the need to hide their identities. There’s a huge, untapped potential here. The LGBTQ+ community has so much to offer, and when people feel free to be themselves, they can achieve amazing things. Investors are starting to see the value too. According to Morgan Stanley, 45% of investors are looking to back LGBTQ+ businesses.

LGBTQ+ founders outperform, yet many don't feel comfortable sharing their sexual & gender identity. The fear of discrimination is not unfounded, and for women and gender minorities the bias is profound. Allies can take concrete steps to support the community: - Publicly show support for LGBTQ+ founders. - Have your team share your pronouns publicly. - Quantify DEI metrics in your fund. - Undertake training and honest discussions internally led by senior leadership. - Hire more diverse investment teams. #VentureCapital #LGBTQ #Entrepreneurship #Inclusion #DiversityMatters #DEI #venturefunding #startup

This LGBT+ History Month, we're exploring why representation is important. 🌈 For too long, LGBT stories and identities were silenced, ignored and misrepresented. It's crucial that people see positive multi-dimensional portrayals of LGBTQ+ characters so stigma can be combatted and LGBTQ+ young people feel understood, valued and feel they have a bright future ahead. 🌟 LGBTQ+ is a normal, rightful part of the social fabric and should be portrayed as such, rather than ignored or even vilified like in the case of Alan Turing. He was instrumental in turning the tide in WW2 but was only pardoned for his crime of 'being gay' 50 years after his death. People's LGBT status should not have any bearing on what they can accomplish. Our choices and backgrounds mould us into the people we are and change how we look at situations and how we deal with things. It takes all sorts of people to come up with great ideas, just like Alan Turing. After all, if everyone was the same, we'd never get new ideas and would only get the same outcomes. We need to embrace our differences and ensure that whatever walk of life we are from, we're all represented. 🙌🏻 Comment your thoughts below. 👇🏻 #diversity #awareness #awarenessmonth #LGBTHistoryMonth #inclusion #openconversations #learning

As June is Pride month, we have reflected on our principles of inclusive prosperity and impactful change. While we are not experts in the LGBTQ+ space, we use our fundamental principles to guide our work in what it means to create inclusive, equal and safe spaces for all marginalised and vulnerable groups. This goes beyond changing the colours of the company logo for a month or decorating the shop floor. To create impactful change and inclusive prosperity, businesses should: > Make a public statement and commitment to creating inclusive spaces > Ensure you have inclusive policies and support channels for staff and customers > Engage with staff and customers to listen and learn about experiences, challenges and ideas for change > Be transparent about the change you make, share progress and learnings as well as celebrating success > Create partnerships with LGBTQ+ organisations to inform and guide your work and provide funding to the organisations. #pride #inclusivity #inclusivebusiness #LGBTQ+
