Meta AI Can Now Use Your Facebook and Instagram Data to Personalize its Responses. Meta says that it is rolling out improvements to Meta AI, its cross-platform chatbot, including the ability to have the bot “remember” details from conversations. In a post on Meta’s official blog, the company said that, in chats with Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp for iOS and Android in the U.S. and Canada, users can now tell Meta AI to remember certain things about them, like that they love to travel and learn new languages. The memory feature, similar to the memory features for OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, lets Meta AI pick up on “important details” based on context, according to Meta. For example, if a user mentioned in a previous chat that they’re vegan and asks Meta AI for breakfast ideas, the chatbot will consistently factor in that dietary preference. Meta says that Meta AI won’t remember things in group chats, and that users can delete its memories at any time. In another, perhaps more controversial upgrade to Meta AI, Meta says that the chatbot will now use account info from across Meta’s apps to give personalized recommendations. That info might include the home location on a user’s Facebook profile or recently viewed Instagram videos. Here’s how Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg pitched it in a post on Monday: “Meta AI will start to give you answers based on what preferences and information you’ve shared,” he wrote. “For example, it’s helped me come up with creative bedtime stories for my daughters, so if I ask it for a new one, it remembers they love mermaids.” Personalized recommendations will go live on Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram in the U.S. and Canada to start. There won’t be an option to opt out, a Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch. Meta is trying its darndest to give Meta AI’s newfound info-scraping abilities a positive spin. But given how little people trust Meta — and Facebook in particular — with their data, one wonders how the updates will be received. Do well to follow us for more Updates! 😊 #MetaAI #LatestNews #SocialMediaNews #DigitalMarketing

“Creepy and Unnecessary”- Meta certainly heard the criticisms! Since late 2023, Meta has maintained a group of 28 AI-driven Instagram and Facebook accounts. These profiles had backstories, shared AI-generated images to their feeds, and were accessible for chatting through direct messages. Meta recently decided to delete all of the AI character profiles after a ton of backlash, with many different reasons for the complaints. From accusations of offensive depictions of marginalized groups to a lack of diversity in their development, this controversy serves as a great wake-up call: As marketers, our tools are only as effective as the intentions and insights behind them. Awareness, authenticity, and community trust can’t be afterthoughts- they must guide every strategy, especially in an era of AI experimentation where many people are on the fence. #meta #ai

Dubbed Llama 3 LLM, this tool is hailed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg as potentially "the most used and best AI assistant in the world." Available in 12 countries outside the US, it offers functionalities ranging from generating text and creating AI images to making GIFs—all without leaving your app. Here's the kicker: it’s free and seamlessly woven into your social media experience. But it’s not without controversy. Some users liken the mandatory integration to that unwelcome U2 album on our iPhones—unasked yet ever present. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐀𝐈 𝐃𝐨? Is AI ruining Facebook & Instagram? “AI is making Meta’s apps basically unusable”: Meta has flooded its social media platforms with artificial intelligence. Soon enough, Meta AI will be everywhere: In your Facebook news feed, Instagram search bar, and even your conversations with friends on Messenger. Meta is flexing its muscle and betting that AI ubiquity will actually improve user experience. So far, at least, that looks like a misguided bet. READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/eMjn-dAh “Meta’s ‘set it and forget it’ AI ad tools are misfiring”: Advertisers report that costs per impressions on Meta’s automated ad platform Advantage Plus have skyrocketed and performance has dropped. Meta hyped Advantage Plus shopping campaigns during earnings calls as a carefree, “set it and forget it” automated solution to online ads. But that hasn’t been the case, marketers say. Since everybody, including me, is on here highlighting AI success stories, I thought I’d take a few minutes to share some AI fails. Today’s winner is #facebook aka #Meta. Let me talk to you about how dumb Meta Facebook’s algorithms are. There was a post that came across my feed. The post contained a picture of a group of boys, one was holding the football, and everybody else was chasing him. The post explains, “there was once a game in which one kid would run around with a football, and everybody would try to tackle him. If he got tackled, he had to throw the ball up in the air And the next person would take the ball and run with it. What was this game called when you were a kid?” The game was called “kill the guy.” That was the response I put. The “geniuses” behind meta-decided this was speech instigating violence. Again, no context. Ironically, a bunch of other people had another name for the game. Those comments were not taken down. The name I’m referring to was “smear the (insert word that rhymes).” Furthermore, in appealing the decision to take my comment down, I’m not allowed to write any text explaining the context. I can only click boxes. So what we have here is not only terrible AI, you have a terrible customer service journey. So there you go. There’s today’s #AIFails. Thank you, Meta Facebook for being today’s bad example. Keep them coming! I probably have a laundry list of examples to use with your company.

Meta AI is the best friend you're not so sure about. Built on its Meta Llama 3, Meta’s free artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, is rolling out across its social media platforms WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. While the assistant will do the usual activities like answer questions, create animations and generate images, the zinger is that it integrates knowledge from Google and Microsoft’s Bing. All in all, it's a huge gamble because the company is placing AI products into the most visible and most used parts of its apps. Is Meta AI really the agent we've been told we need? Well, that depends. We've heard a lot about AI agents and that's essentially what Meta is attempting to do in this version. And it's not going to be shy about it. You'll see Meta AI everywhere – in your social media feed, when you search for something online, and even while chatting with friends. The important element here is that Meta AI is being developed as that companion that can help you with anything you need. How helpful? Only time will tell. Chatbots have already shown the limitations of the current stage of generative AI with various hiccups including false or wrong information, hallucinations or worse, bizarre exchanges with users. Obviously, Meta AI will go through its own growing pains especially since it will eventually be deployed across platforms used by four billion people on a global scale. The other challenge isn't necessarily whether people will use Meta AI because they almost certainly will given that it will be integrated into just about every aspect of the platform and the apps. The challenge for Meta is whether people find the AI assistant useful as well as the user experience. As mentioned, Meta AI is in its early days, and people will likely kick the tires and push its limits. As you'd expect, more data — acquired and ingested at costs only tech giants can afford, and increasingly subject to copyright disputes and lawsuits — will continue to drive improvements. Given the advances in the space, Llama 3-based Meta AI is more than likely to be replaced by something more advanced soon enough. And five years down the road will bring even more advancements for better and for worse that we haven't envisioned yet https://lnkd.in/gJTAaicS #meta #artificialintelligence #generativeai #llm #chatbots #aiagents #opensource #llama3

Meta Unveils AI Chatbot Feature for Instagram Creators and Businesses Meta (Facebook) just announced an exciting new feature for Instagram: creators and businesses can now build their own AI chatbots to interact with their communities. In a post on his broadcast channel, CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared details about this new initiative: - Meta is rolling out an "early test" in the U.S. of their AI studio, which will allow users to start seeing AI characters created by their favorite creators and interest-based AIs in the coming weeks on Instagram. - These AI chatbots will primarily appear in messaging features for now and will be clearly labeled as AI so users know they are interacting with a computer program, not a human. - Zuckerberg noted it's still "early days" for these AI avatars, and Meta will be working to improve them over time before making them more widely available. - Some of the initial creators Meta is working with include the popular meme account Wasted and tech creator Don Allen Stevenson III. The goal is to eventually enable all creators and small businesses on Instagram to build their own custom AI chatbots. Zuckerberg envisions a wide variety of specialized AI assistants catering to users' different interests and needs. For creators, the AI chatbots could help them engage more with fans and respond to messages when they don't have the time. Businesses could use the AIs for customer service, sales, and other interactions. Zuckerberg acknowledged that perfecting these AI chatbots will be an "art form" that evolves, as Meta figures out the right balance of being engaging, entertaining, and building trust with users. The initial testing will be limited to around 50 creators and a small percentage of the Instagram user base. Meta plans to roll it out more broadly in the coming months, aiming for a full launch by August. #Instagram #AIchatbots #CreatorEconomy #SocialMedia #TechNews #FutureofSocial
