🚆 All aboard the future of green travel! California's first zero-emission train leads toward a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow. California has recently shared its first-ever zero-emission passenger train. The self-powered train will serve the Arrow line in San Bernardino County. The train is fueled by blue hydrogen, which extracts hydrogen from natural gas but stores the carbon dioxide for other uses. They hope to switch to green hydrogen in the future, a process that wouldn’t create the carbon byproduct. More trains like this around the US would help reduce the country’s carbon emissions in transportation. This also reminds us about part of the case for bringing back international train services to Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International (and I would suggest also Stratford International). International travel facilities that are currently completely unused that could add much needed capacity, and notably that have already been paid for by British tax payers. Bringing these facilities (certainly the two Kent International facilities) back into use is a win win win: giving us much needed additional sustainable international 'short-haul' transport capacity, boosting the economy and creating much needed jobs and opportunities in Kent, Essex, and East Sussex outside the overheated London economic bubble, and helping to meet our climate change commitments.

New research shows 75 per cent of Brits admit to finding the terminology used in climate conversations so confusing they’re struggling to see what changes they need to make to live a more sustainable life. A study of 2,000 adults, commissioned by LNER, found that expressions such as ‘net zero’ and ‘carbon offsetting’ are amongst the phrases people find the most difficult to understand or apply to their daily lives. #railnews #railways #ukrail #rail

Have you ever thought about your impact on your environment as you select your option to travel. Definitely worth thinking about. I'm surprised that Diesel and Gas car are about the same. Also, I may think for a family to go by car is likely a better carbon footprint than others but it really is not when compared to other means. https://lnkd.in/eXQXpjwN #climatechangeisreal #travelfootprint #carbonfootprint#impactonenvironment #newdiscoverycoaching

One of the biggest sources of travel emissions is the mode of transportation you use. Flying, driving, and cruising can generate a lot of greenhouse gases that warm the planet and harm ecosystems. To lower your carbon emissions, you can opt for direct flights, economy class, and fuel-efficient airlines. You can also use carbon calculators to estimate your travel emissions and purchase carbon offsets from reputable organizations that invest in renewable energy, forest restoration, or other climate solutions. Muthaiga Travel helps organizations keep track of their travel emissions by creating specialized carbon emissions reports. Email us via Travel@muthaiga.co.ke to request your air travel-related carbon emissions report. #CarbonEmissions #Sustainability #MuthaigaTravel

During our recent visit to Glasgow, we reflected on the environmental impact of our travel. We journeyed by air from Birmingham to Glasgow and back, which included a short taxi ride to and from the airport, along with an Uber trip from a restaurant. In total, this resulted in the emission of 0.632 metric tonnes of CO2, with an average door-to-door travel time of 4.5 hours. Had we opted to drive instead, the CO2 emissions would have been 0.164 metric tonnes of CO2, with an estimated travel time of 6 hours, accounting for stops. The thought of flying does not seem justifiable to me, especially when considering the added stress associated with air travel, such as security checks, turbulence, and waiting times before departure. Regardless of the mode of transport, our consistent support of TreeApp means that we have already offset 6.54 metric tonnes of CO2 so far. I think there are valuable lessons to be gained from this experience and analysis, and we'll be carrying out this kind of analysis before our next longer trip.
