An Asda staff #survey has revealed some interesting insights into employee confidence in the supermarket's #strategy. The annual questionnaire, completed by 75,591 workers last month, highlighted that only 47% of respondents expressed confidence in the grocer's long-term plan. Additionally, 48% were unable to identify the benefits of Asda's 'Project Future', described as a significant IT transformation. While increasing salaries has been the primary response, this approach might be too simplistic for a complex problem. Here's why: 1. The labor market is difficult right now, that's for sure. It's especially true in high-turnover industries like restaurants. To stay competitive in the market, businesses are looking for inexpensive but valuable benefits. Which UK supermarkets pay their staff the most? Would it surprise you to know that it is Aldi and Lidl? Both of the German-owned chains are raising their pay rate to £12.40 per hour (outside London) at the start of next month. This compares to the £12.02 per hour paid by Tesco. All supermarkets pay above the National Living Wage of £11.44 per hour, which jumped by over £1 to this level in April. With the current job vacancy level at 916,000 (still well above pre-covid levels), businesses who want to attract good staff need to be aware of what is on offer elsewhere. But, as ever, money is only one factor in the equation.
