Important discussion coming up about global implications of AI. Many data workers, especially in third-world countries, doing the low-paid grunt work of anotation and content cleansing. AI would not be viable without these workers

Linking WASH professionals to resources and knowledge daily| Knowledge Broker | Eawag-Sandec | Consultant
Opportunities are out there! But you will not find them if you do not know how to search. I know prompting is the new butter in town, but search (web search) will remain bread, at least until chat GPT & and the rest stop hallucinating. So until then, here is how to search on the web in ways that you were probably not taught: 1. Use the minus sign in front of the what should not be included in your search results e.g WASH -machine -verb jobs 2. Use quotes to search for specific words or phrases e.g. "FSM Book" or "WASH jobs" 3. Search within specific sites using site:url e.g site:sandec.ch Books 4. Use OR to show either of two searched words in the results. E.g Water OR sanitation 5. Use AND to show both words searched. E.g Water AND Sanitation 6. Use * to replace a word you do not remember in a phrase and google will filll it up for you E.g "climate*sanitation" will return resilient 7. Use brackets to group multiple searches. E.g. (Water OR Sanitation) funding opportunities 8. Use IN after a search term followed by the name of a country to only find results from that country. E.g (Water OR Sanitation) jobs IN Kenya Fun fact: In a recent study, limited information-searching skills and the unawareness of accessible sources were some of the most frequent barriers for doctors to access clinical information. I hope you will now do power searches WASH people. #PREF4WASH Sandec-Eawag #Opportunities #Search

Working in remote and hard-to-reach terrains of #Afghanistan demands not only courage but also technical expertise. Knowledge of data collection, validation, and analysis to transform it into information for decision-makers plays a crucial role in delivering aid. Our commitment lies in empowering humanitarian workers with these essential data skills. In December alone, we trained 5️⃣1️⃣ humanitarians through 2 batches of 4-day sessions blending theory with practical applications. What did they learn? 📝 Data Collection: Participants learned to design efficient data collection forms with tools like Google Forms and Kobo Toolbox. 📊Data Processing: They were trained in techniques for cleaning, validating, and processing data using Microsoft Excel 🗺️Mapping: They learned to create detailed maps using Google Earth Pro. 💡 These trainings aim to enhance our participants' ability to improve information management within their organizations, leading to more informed and strategic decision-making. 🤝 Together, we're building a foundation for sustainable, data-driven humanitarian work. #HumanitarianAid #DataSkills #Afghanistan #CapacityBuilding #InformationManagement

Public data for public good. Since June 18th, Kenyans led by Gen Z, have been pushing for more accountability from the government, including rejecting the Finance Bill 2024 and forcing President Ruto to fire his cabinet. Access to public data has been at the center of this movement, providing much needed scrutiny to the budget making process and Kenyans creatively breaking the data into local languages and very engaging content on social media. However we still have a lot of work to making public data accessible and useful to every citizen, especially in key social areas such as Education. That is why at Datafest Africa 24, we convened a session on Public Data for Public Good. The session sought to explore gaps and challenges for providing education as a public good and ways of leveraging public data to address the gap between public policy and community needs. The session analysed educational polices from since Kenyan independence and discussed gaps that have hindered alignment of public policy with community needs. Drawing from participants from different African countries, it was clear that while citizens want to hold government to account, the majority do not have access to data and information to do so. This is because public data is fragmented in different formats and locations, and therefore not really accessible and useful to the public. We're looking forward to continuing building these conversations on public data and public good through Data Comms (https://lnkd.in/dt7jxsj2) an open source project built by community and for community to ensure public data is publicly available and useful to everyone. I help organizations save time and boost efficiency with general Virtual assistance services, professional data entry and social media management services
I'm enjoying my time with ALX Africa as I journey into becoming an exceptional VA. This week, so far we've learnt about internet Research. Internet research is broad and could mean: 1) Informational Search: Doing a Google search to see what results come up, and then possibly following several links to see what else is learned. 2) In-Depth Research: For a provided topic or research question, searching through reputable or scholarly articles found online, reading them, extracting out key learnings and/or data, and synthesizing the information in a report or presentation. 3) Data Compilation: Using the internet to find specific sought-after data (often spread out in different locations) and then compiling it into one document or spreadsheet. Because this type of research often involves data entry, we’ll share some more examples in the next module on data entry. And as a VA, it’s very important that I make sure I have a very clear understanding of the requirements of what my manager/client is expecting before I embark on a task or job. I also learnt on How to Conduct Internet Research following these steps to guide your research process: -Define my goals, questions, and guesses. What do I want to achieve with this research? What specific information will help me in my tasks? -Determine what I need to find. What kind of data or information do I need? -How should I present this information to others? Identify my main sources of information. Find reliable sources with trustworthy data. Are there specific experts or organizations known for their insights? -Start gathering information. Use the right keywords to find reports, articles, or studies. How many sources should I check to get enough information? Check if my sources are reliable. Make sure the information i find is trustworthy. -Summarize my findings. Write down the most important insights from my research. Present them clearly and effectively. -Review my goals and questions. Make sure my research answers my initial questions and guides my next steps #VirtualAssistant #ALXAfrica #InternetResearch

1wGood day. Please I wanted to send this as a message but I can't afford LinkedIn premium. I need your help. Subject: Mentorship Request - Shalom Chidi-Azuwike Dear Dr. Timnit Gebru, I hope this message finds you well. My name is Shalom Chidi-Azuwike, and I am a third-year Software Engineering student at FUTO, Nigeria. I am reaching out because I deeply admire your pioneering work in AI ethics and inclusivity in tech, especially your commitment to making AI more representative and accountable. I have a keen interest in leveraging AI for practical and impactful applications, particularly in the realm of security. One of my current ideas revolves around using AI to enhance home and property security, helping protect vulnerable communities from attacks. However, I feel I lack the advanced skills and network to truly bring this idea to life and create a scalable solution.
