It was an honor to moderate the Third Africa Data Governance Dialogue on Transparency and Accountability. I was privileged to share the platform with distinguished speakers who offered valuable insights and expertise on enhancing transparency within African data ecosystems. Their research and innovative initiatives across diverse sectors, such as agriculture, health, and education, were truly inspiring. This dialogue, co-organized by NIYEL and Pollicy is part of an ongoing series of conversations on data governance. It serves as a vital platform for policymakers, researchers, innovators, civil society, and experts to exchange ideas and discuss best practices within the context of local African needs. Key Takeaways from our conversation 📌Open data and communication, including Access to Information, are key elements in enabling citizens to better understand government actions. By making data readily available and understandable, governments can foster transparency and empower citizens to hold decision-makers accountable. 📌Accountability goes beyond the release of data; providing high-quality data is essential to enhancing government policies. This begins with data collection and extends through its use and applications. 📌Successful adoption of Open Data Governments in Africa requires strong political will, infrastructure development, and capacity building. Open Data systems will boost innovative solutions, improve public services, and address local challenges. I invite you to visit the Africa Data Governance Hub to learn more about the Africa Data Governance Dialogue and follow the upcoming conversations, where we will tackle different aspects of data governance, including technology-gender based violence, women’s inclusion in digital spaces, Data governance frameworks and applicability in African countries, and other relevant topics. 💡 You can also join the community through registering in the hub platform. https://lnkd.in/dNHD2fqK Ndéye Maimouna Diop @Mamadou Mbodji Renato Berrino Malaccorto @Victor Werimo Belko Abdoul Aziz Diallo, Ph.D, Ing. 📑 New Policy Brief Out! Uganda’s Sexual Offences Bill 2024 although recognisant of sexual violence, fails to fully address Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (#TFGBV), leaving survivors without clear legal protection. But there's a chance to change that. In a recent meeting with Uganda’s Parliamentary Committees on Legal & Gender Affairs, Pollicy together with Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA) and Gender Tech Initiative Uganda highlighted these legal gaps and the urgent need for reform. Our latest policy brief unpacks how the Sexual Offences Bill 2024 can offer stronger safeguards against both physical and digital sexual violence. 🔗 Read the full brief: www.bit.ly/TFGBV_SOB24 #DigitalRights #GenderJustice #TFGBV #LegalReform
