Thanks Marc. Some key takeaways from the SME session. Most suppliers are SMEs, so for smaller companies and social enterprises lowering the barrier to entry is key.
For Suppliers
1. register on etenders .. make sure to find the most relevant cpv codes to meet your business profile.. we have a great tool on our website to help https://greenville.ie/cpv/
2. consider collaborating with other like minded suppliers including social enterprises
3. prepare a pack with some of the key data requested.. tax clearance from Revenue, insurances generally being employers liability, public liability and product liability and maybe professional indemnity, turnover details, details of quality, health and safety and environmental management systems, staff profile and previous experience.
4. make contact with local buyers first.. start local
5. seek feedback if you fail
What buyers can do
1. more use of supplier engagement using pre market consultation on etenders
2. run events locally to engage with firms on a sector or category basis outside of tendering
3. simplify tender process where possible.. don't be asking for turnover unless really necessary, why look for three examples of previous experience when one might be sufficient
4. consider where to position cost.. lower is better
5. use all the flexibility of public procurement not just the standard processes
if both sides are braver then we will reap rewards for local, sustainable, innovative procurement for everyone..
looking forward to hearing the success stories.
thanks everyone for a great day Ingrid De Doncker, Duncan Walker, Rita Shah, Des Phelan and Fergal Grogan and the Procurex team
