No matter what anyone says we believe the A11 watch manufactured jointly in WW2 by Waltham, Elgin & Bulova was the first what has now become known as a Field Watch. However there were a number of iterations of the A11, so you will find A11s in the European Theatre with both the USAAF and a variation with the RAF, the model,shown here is rarer as it’s a FSSC-88-W-800 which denotes a US Navy pilots watch. As most of the war with Japan involved infantry and the US Navy and was fought in the Pacific over large stretches of water and small Islands so most US Navy pilots operated from Flat Top Aircraft Carriers or were based at Pearl Harbour. Australia commits to Ex Super Garuda. Over 125 personnel from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) were invited to participate in Exercise Super Garuda Shield 2023, a training activity led by the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the United States Indo-Pacific Command in East Java from 31 August to 13 September. The ADF deployed personnel, command and control elements, a range of armoured vehicles, trucks, and recovery vehicles, including a troop of M1A1 Abrams tanks from the 1st Armoured Regiment and Special Forces units. This will be the first time heavy armoured vehicles have left Australian shores since the Vietnam War. The goal of this exercise is to train the ADF to collaborate effectively with partner nations to deploy significant land forces, including armour, across the Indo-Pacific region.
