Plano, Texas, is leading the way in innovative redevelopment projects to manage its rapid growth and evolving economic landscape. Ladner, a small Lower Mainland town set within the larger, fast-growing municipality of Delta, B.C., is starting to get a taste of higher density development more common among its neighbours, reported Real Estate News Exchange (RENX). And if so, at what cost to the community in exchange for a few affordable housing units which may a short affordability period. Veteran Housing Corp applauds all efforts to build affordable housing but would challenge the US Congress and every local, state, and federal housing agency or affordable housing developer to do better in 2024 and beyond. Veteran Housing Corp demands permanent affordability for all projects receiving government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or other incentives! Veteran Housing Corp demands transparency and every local, state, and federal government agency and other stakeholders MUST provide answers to questions about the housing projects that are built with government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or incentives, including the following: 1. How much funding, federal tax credits, or government benefits or incentives from all government sources did the projects receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants will not be displaced after the "affordability period expires? Ann Arbor, Michigan is aiming to encourage mixed-use development as a way to promote walkability and sustainable transportation. The city has made changes to zoning regulations to encourage more of these developments, with the goal of creating vibrant, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods. Despite the benefits of mixed-use development, some projects in Ann Arbor have experienced high vacancy rates on the ground floor while residential units above remain in high demand. This has led some to question whether the city needs to do more to support small businesses and economic development. Nevertheless, many believe that mixed-use development is still worth pursuing in Ann Arbor. By creating more walkable neighborhoods, these projects can help reduce traffic congestion and improve quality of life for residents. Additionally, mixed-use development can create more affordable housing options in areas where housing costs are rising rapidly.
