It's easy to look at BuzzFeed and only see the negative. It has a lot of debt. Its traffic is very large, but it is also a commodity. But is there anyway forward for the business? A great business puts its customers first. You can’t fake that with branding. Make that your priority and then… Communicate it clearly - through your actions or through your messaging. YouTube is a great example, they’ve prioritised ‘viewer satisfaction’ as their key metric. Instead of prioritising clickbaity videos with no pay-off leaving viewers feeling cheated, they changed the algorithm. And guess what? Revenue fell! Initially… Until more people started getting value from YouTube and coming back more often. Despite being the market leader they continue to see growth by putting VALUE first.
