In this blog, W2SF talks about seeing flamenco in museums, typically associated with static visual arts, historical artifacts, and quiet contemplation. Flamenco is a dynamic, loud, and highly emotive performance art, and this combination of contrasting environments, from the habitual serenity of museums to the intense and energetic performance of flamenco provides a striking dissimilarity in atmosphere. In a departure from conventional venues, seeing flamenco in a museum offers a multi-sensory experience that enhances the appreciation of both the visual and performing arts. Whereas museums showcase historical and cultural artifacts, flamenco is a contemporary expression of cultural heritage. Seeing flamenco in a museum context highlights the ongoing evolution of cultural traditions, making the past and present resonate together. This fusion of environments creates a rich, layered experience, offering a new perspective on both the museum's collection and the flamenco performance. https://lnkd.in/drcHrQTc

It's always worth starting over. Salsa DJ and sommelier-in-the-making I Founder I Storyteller I Keynote speaker I Barista
"I feel it's #culturalappropriation when I wear a turban as I am not a black person." I often hear this, and I truly value (@missbalanta) those questioning this increasingly discussed concept. On my Instagram posts, I've shared my views, emphasizing that major brands bear a significant responsibility to respect #culturalelements, and consumers should be informed about their purchases. However, we can't mandate everyone to do this; you see something you like, you buy it, and that's the end of the story in #consumersociety. Often, people either don't have the time or interest to check if a brand contributes to the indigenous community related to a fabric they use. The reality is stark, and this is where big brands or companies MUST inform their customers, providing more specific information about their products or services. But beyond big brands and cultural appropriation, what about black entrepreneurs or those supporting their homes by selling turbans? I refer to the #PetronioÁlvarezFestival, Colombia's most important Afro-Colombian music festival, as an example because it now attracts people of diverse skin colors. Everyone who buy a turban in the market at the festival leaves with knowledge of #turbanhistory. That's what I aim to do with #MissBalanta; whenever someone buys one of my products, I try to share a bit about what they're purchasing. Therefore, the concept of cultural appropriation needs to be more specific, as black entrepreneurs selling turbans have an important role but can't start selecting whom to sell to based on skin color. My mission might be empowerment through turbans, but I also have a business that sustains me while discussing our #AfroColombian history and African heritage. We must tell our own stories. In summary, the responsibility is on everyone, but we shouldn't confuse being part of an ethnic group and highlighting an important element of your community with exploiting ethnic elements without any recognition. So, don't hesitate to buy something you like; buy it, inform yourself about what you're purchasing, and wear it proudly because you're supporting a community and are grateful for learning something new. Share and be part of it! If you're interested in the history of the turban, in May I be conducting a turban workshop in Oslo. For more details, you might want to keep an eye on updates or announcements related to the event. Photo by: Andres Camilo Gomez Me, at 9 months pregnant. (old photo)

The organization of cultural events and festivals is a great way to foster the use of green spaces while making them safer and more accessible for all. The Varna Summer Festival organized by the Bulgarian city, partner of the URBACT network Cities After Dark, is a great example of how green areas such as its park on the sea can be revived in summer period through concerts of classical music and popular cultural, fostering a crossover among different styles since decades. In times of climate emergency, enhancing the access to green spaces in nocturnal hours is key for offering refuge from severe heat while contributing to the social and cultural growth of the local community. This is one of the four strands of action of Cities After Dark, aimed at granting the right to the city at night for all. Still reeling after watching The Celebration Tour in Rio this past weekend! 🤩 What an incredible finale to Madonna's 81-date, sold-out world tour, celebrating her remarkable 40-year career in the music industry. As someone passionate about experiential events (and, also, a die-hard Madonna fan), this show had it all: state-of-the-art production, theatrical storytelling, and, of course, a killer setlist. What was truly inspiring, though, was witnessing the overwhelming wave of joy and love from over 1.5 million people filling Copacabana Beach. I had never seen anything like it before! To me, it was a beautiful reminder of how live events have the power to influence and transform people's lives through the unifying energy of shared experiences. However, the show alone wouldn’t have had the same impact without the vision behind it. In one of the most inspiring moments, reflecting on her early days in music, Madonna described herself: "She is brave, she is courageous, she is naive, she is idealistic, she is ridiculous, but guess what... she has... A DREAM. And if you don't have a dream, you cannot make the impossible possible." Well, that dream fully materialised on Saturday night. The sheer number of people, the roaring cheers, the smiles, the tears, the excitement, all underscored another key aspect of live events transformative power: that whatever project, mission, or adventure we embark on, having a clear vision and unwavering faith in the face of adversity and criticism, while remaining steadfast in purpose, can truly make miracles happen. Even after 40 years. #LiveEvents #ExperientialEvents #EventImpact #EventTransformation #EventInspiration #SharedMoments #PowerOfExperience #MusicEvents #Madonna

🕍🌟Multifunctional cultural center Reduta - not only a place of concerts and balls, but also a witness to many important historical events.🕍🌟 During the period of the first Czechoslovak Republic, several political gatherings and social gatherings were held here, making the Redoubt an important point in the social life of the city. It is interesting that the building's architecture reflects not only the cultural boom of the time, but also the transition between different architectural styles.🌟 On the facade, we can see a rich combination of ornaments and stylistic elements, from Art Nouveau to Baroque ornaments, which makes it a unique architectural gem. In the interior, there is a large concert hall with excellent acoustics, where, in addition to classical concerts of the Slovak Philharmonic, contemporary music genres are also played. One interesting thing about Reduta is that when it was built, it also served as the first cinema in Bratislava. A cinema was established in Reduta, which was one of the first in the city and was among the most modern cinemas of the time.🌟 Visitors could thus enjoy not only concerts and social events, but also watch film news. Today, this function no longer exists in the building, but the historic cinema in Reduta was a symbol of how the building became a real center of cultural life in Bratislava at the beginning of the 20th century. . . . . . #RedutaBratislava #SlovakPhilharmonic #HistoricalBuilding #CulturalHeritage #BratislavaLandmarks #ConcertHall #SlovakHistory

July is La Guelaguetza, a month-long celebration of Oaxaca’s indigenous cultures! Pulled from the Zapotec language, the word “Guelaguetza” is usually interpreted as the "reciprocal exchanges of gifts and services" and the celebration is the largest ethnic and cultural festival in Oaxaca. Throughout the month, the eight regions of Oaxaca share their various music, dance, art, and food traditions in small gatherings throughout the state, coming together for a large celebration in Oaxaca City. A tradition spanning centuries, La Guelaguetza has grown into a must-see tourist experience. As it grows, it remains a cornerstone of Oaxacan and Mexican culture and its preservation is the primary focus of the communities that participate. At Maguey Exchange, we serve as a dynamic bridge between the past, present, and future of the agave spirits industry. Our core mission is to disseminate the rich culture and traditions of mezcal and other artisanal spirits to a broader audience, maintaining the authenticity of their roots while innovatively integrating them into the digital economy. We're dedicated to resolving the challenge of merging modern communication and community engagement methods with time-honored cultural festivals like La Guelaguetza. It's a delicate balance we're privileged to maintain as we strive to preserve heritage, foster a future-forward approach, and revolutionize the way consumers participate in the industry.
