AI can automate. But is it worth it? Found this thought-provoking article published by MIT Sloan School of Management which made me think about the cost efficiency of adopting AI, and wanted to share my insights on it. It seems to be one of the early scientific studies on predicting possible adoption curves. It specifically focuses on adding the factor of economic viability in addition to technical feasibility, to predict adoption curves. Using computer vision as an example, the research reveals that, at current costs, automating only 23% of tasks possible with AI is economically justifiable. In addition to emphasising the need for companies to consider financial viability in their AI Adoption Framework, the paper also predicts a much slower AI adoption curve than most of the consensus suggests. https://lnkd.in/getB5JXK #AIAdoption #FutureOfWork #BusinessTransformation
It is found that the most common mistake that companies do is to think of AI as a mere automation tool. To capture the full value of AI, business need to find opportunities to transform business models that create value
AI adoption significantly transforms businesses by enhancing efficiency, automating tasks, and enabling data-driven decision-making. It fosters innovation, improves customer experiences, and offers a competitive edge. However, companies must navigate challenges like ethical considerations and economic viability to fully leverage AI's potential.
Interesting article on the economic viability of AI adoption and its impact on adoption curves. Companies need to consider financial feasibility in their AI adoption framework.
Good insights
Insightful!
One important note is that the cost of AI is dropping exponentially due to two core factors: increasing optimisation of models and increased efficiency of the underlying hardware. So if a business case is not viable today, it could well be tomorrow.
