August is National Civic Health Month. The National Civic League has created a civic health index that includes seven components of community-based civic capital: engaged residents, inclusive community leadership, collaborative institutions, embracing diversity and equity, authentic communication, a culture of engagement, and shared vision and values. Here in Arkansas, it is in our best interests, and in the best interests of our children and grandchildren, that we elect leaders who make it their mission to create and sustain civic health infrastructure that empowers the citizens of Arkansas to build livable communities where we all can thrive together. Read the 2023 Arkansas Civic Health Index, that I co-authored, to find out what our elected officials should be thinking about to improve our state's civic health: https://lnkd.in/gqaPARWU

First Year Cleveland (FYC), in partnership with the Woodruff and Bruening foundations, is seeking to identify and engage a consultant to convene and facilitate a learning collaborative of three to five community-based organizations (CBOs) addressing maternal/infant physical and mental health to help them optimize their revenue from reimbursement (from Medicaid and other payers) and enhance their sustainability. FYC, whose mission is to address racial disparities in maternal and infant health in Cuyahoga County, will convene the learning collaborative, and CBOs invited to participate will be specifically those working to address the disparate health outcomes for Black and Brown women and infants, as compared to their White counterparts. The engagement will involve several group convenings as well as individualized technical support for each participating organization.

💬 “how can we make sure our voice is heard in the legislative and public policy conversation?” 🙋♂️ Simply, show up. Earlier this week I was on an advocacy panel and took on this question. And the more time I spend in halls of power, the answer becomes increasingly clear: Creating the change you want to see begins with showing up—whether it's speaking on panels about effective advocacy, visiting campuses to engage with local leaders, faculty, and teacher candidates, listening to local forums with candidates for elected offices, sending an email, or simply having a conversation with a family member, friend, or a neighbor. On my recent trips to Tennessee and North Carolina to represent Deans for Impact (DFI), change was afoot and I had the privilege of helping create some of it by SHOWING UP and keeping our vision for well-prepared teachers front of mind. Change happens when we’re present, intentional, and committed to the work ahead. So, keep showing up. (Thanks for moderating a thoughtful conversation, James McIntyre! And for giving me some new ideas, Diarese George, Ed.D, Aleah Guthrie, Cameron Armstrong Conn, JC Bowman, and Terrance Gibson). #Leadership #Advocacy #Pedagogy #DeansForImpact #DFI

Following the election, many are asking: How do we move forward, bridge divides, and work together? Arizona’s civic health is key to answering these questions. Civic health is how we engage with one another and our systems, build trust, and work together to create the future we want as Arizonans. Civic health exists whether we pay attention to it or not, and like any ecosystem, its condition depends on the care it receives. In an op-ed for The Arizona Republic | azcentral.com | La Voz, CFA Chair, President & CEO Sybil Francis discusses what civic health is, why it matters, and why it needs attention and care well beyond any one election. By understanding where we are and what we want to achieve, we can strengthen our ability to come together and move Arizona forward. Read more: https://bit.ly/3ZYmXsx

#ShawneeState has received a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support new initiatives related to substance use disorder (SUD) recovery in southern Ohio and northern Kentucky. “The College of Health and Human Services is very excited to have the support of ARC's INSPIRE grant award to move our vision of developing a Center for Rural Community Health forward. We understand the critical importance of networks for people in recovery, and this funding facilitates the creation of recovery resources for SSU and K-12 students and their families across the region, as well as the development a tailored approach to assisting people in recovery to obtain their degree." - Dr. Christine Raber, Interim Dean of the College of Health & Human Services 📰 » https://lnkd.in/g4vkJpEB

Riverside Community Health Foundation is honored to partner with the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) as a grant recipient of the CHCF’s Pulse of Change: A Black Health Initiative. As a result of their investment, over the next two years we will aim to lower hypertension rates among Black adults in Riverside County by promoting patient adherence to follow-up visits, provision of timely care, and providing patient education services. Additionally, this investment we will allow us to offer: ● Free mobile blood pressure screenings ● Transportation support ● Referrals to culturally competent trained community health workers This partnership with CHCF furthers our ability to provide a health care environment where Black patients feel heard, respected, and empowered. Together, we’re working to create a safer and stronger health care system for Black Californians. STAY CONNECTED and learn how you or a loved one can take part in this initiative. For the past nine months, P.A.C.E.has partnered with The Atlanta Thrive, lead by Kimberly Dukes, to advocate for equitable educational policies in Atlanta Public Schools. Our partnership showcases how strategic advocacy and communications can drive meaningful policy changes, even in complex systems. The campaign has already laid the groundwork for future reforms, and there is immense potential for continued growth and impact through targeted support that transforms awareness into action.
