Military housing...across the board...it's the Good, the Bad, and lots of Ugly. It's no secret there are issues...concurrently, who is being held accountable? Someone is at the tip of the spear...the chain of command is a great starting point. > Where was the chain of command...from the lowest levels to the installion command group? > Were they prevented from raising these issues by their commanders? > Did they ever inspect the barracks or family housing? Has it turned into a choice to inspect? > Is there no feedback mechanism for post housing or barracks for repairs? What issues have you seen...any service?? This entire matter should be an earmark in the budget with triggers to report back to Congress on progress...by military installation. There should be strong consequences for those commands that fail to comply!! #VETLANTA #veterans #Veteran #Army #navy #airforce #marine #Marines #coastguard

It is not the local chain of command. Their authority ends at putting together barracks cleaning crews and complaining to higher HQ. It’s a broader issue that’s tied to budget and priorities of the GO class. GOs need to be held accountable for this crisis.

Military facilities in general are a disaster. Budget, budget, budget. At least that’s what I’m constantly told. So I just pass that along to my soldiers in their dilapidated workplaces and living spaces and we’re at Hunter Army Airfield and Fort Stewart in GEORGIA. 🍑

Funny how the article is along the lines of this is a new discovery… as if it wasn’t already known. What got a bit under my skin, leaders would call in work orders to organizations who “don’t have the budget,” or “under staffed” to adequately respond… mean while the quality electricians, plumbers, and carpenters on Active Duty or in the reserve component would spend quality time in the motor pool, or on some sort of garrison red cycle task. And while I understand the value of learning how to pay attention to detail, it would be nice if the military would really leverage resources.

Installation Management Command (IMCOM) U.S. Army Installation Management Command, needs some dire attention and help. Our posts, camps, and stations are in bad shape. While there are some improvements in training facilities (Ft. Gordon modernization), the housing and general state of the post is embarrassing. Soldiers will gladly leave in droves when they see what they are going to get when arriving at their first duty station. The services offered by commercial entity, college campus, and modern housing are the standards of today. The day of a military garrison commander has come and gone. It's time to get professional help in there with people who are experts in facility management.

I cannot say with any certainty regarding the housing situation in the other branches, but Army housing has been declining for some time. Two of the leading culprits of this demise is BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) Program and the decision by the DoD to allow private-sector companies own and operate about 99% of homes on military installations in the United States. When coupled with a massive shift in military discipline and numerous deployments, it is a perfect storm for disaster.

I have lived in several Army facilities that had SOPs regarding when it was safe to attempt to "clean" mold found in your barracks room. Out living conditions have never been a priority. Have fewer barracks so they are easier to maintain and give E4s and above BAH.

Prisoners on federal properties, i.e. military bases, sued when put into the barracks temporarily due to the conditions, yet, it is no problem for our law abiding heros!

The lowest bidder will always ensure the the least expensive hardware and supplies are utilized with the lowest quality. What former High Ranking Military Officers are in charge of, on the B.O.D. of those companies?
