‘Give young girls the same chance in sport as boys’ 📣 Former England rugby union international and Women in Sport Trustee Brian Moore has spoken out on the need to break down harmful stereotypes in primary schools, in community sport and at home to create environments where girls can thrive in sport and boys can learn to be powerful allies. Moore, who has four daughters, has seen playground prejudices first-hand and believes gender stereotyping leads to a vicious circle that widens the sport skills gap. In a recent interview with Sky Sports News, Brian said… “I’ve seen it with my girls; boys not passing to them and saying ‘well, you’re not as good.’” “We just want them to have the same chance as everyone else, and they’re not getting that at the moment.” Read more about our research into young boys’ attitudes to women and girls in sport: https://lnkd.in/guMgwHX2

Education improvement specialist: Creating effective networks | Collaboration | Careers Education | STEM Education | Teacher Training | Facilitator | Raising aspirations | Inclusive Practice
Today I shared how important joining a sports club has been to supporting me through possibly the most challenging time of my life (so far). It made me reflect on how people from disadvantaged backgrounds have many barriers to accessing sport which has so many social, emotional, mental and physical health benefits! I have a little girl and the research highlights the significant influence of psychological and social factors on girls' participation in sport, even by year 3, girls experience increased self-consciousness and lower confidence which can stop them from participating in sport! It is so important to foster supportive environments for our young people. #EmpowerGirls #GirlsInSport #BreakingBarriers #Inclusion Here are some really interesting articles... A lot of the work we do to grow women’s and girls’ participation in sport involves working with sports that have historically been mostly played by, and run by, men. One of the challenges that is regularly raised is how to infiltrate the ‘old boys club’, how to change perceptions of women and girls playing these sports, and how to drive change and create opportunities for women and girls. This week we're looking back at our blog post 'Changing perceptions of sports for women' and sharing some thoughts on how you can help drive this change. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Why not let us know in the comments below? #SportSister #Sport #History #OldBoysClub #Challenges #WomenInSport #WomenEmpoweringWomen

💥 We created NETBALLHer to break down barriers for women and girls in sport. The recent findings in the “Boys will be boys: Creating a new generation of male allies for girls in sport” report from Women in Sport reinforces the messaging that drives us to continue to equip and educate women and girls about their bodies, which in turn increases the chances of them participating in sport and staying active. 📈 As we lead a movement on and beyond the court, we agree with @Women in Sport that: “Boys, and the men they will become, can be agents of change for girls and women in sport, and in life.” 👫 We believe in an inclusive future, where women and girls belong and thrive in sport, and are fully understood from all contexts throughout the life stages. Our unapologetic female focus is driven to open up our sport to new audiences whilst celebrating and promoting difference, allowing more women and girls to participate and discover their own sense of belonging within netball. 💫🏐 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eEeCzeWK

🌟 Celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day! 🌟 Today, we salute the incredible achievements of female athletes and acknowledge the profound impact of sports on girls and women. 🌍💪 Did you know? In Canada, 59% of girls aged 3 to 17 participate in sport, with 22% embracing team sports. What's truly impressive? When girls participate in sport, they participate in many. Over 80% of girls identified, participated in at least two sports and over 30% participated in over six sports. However, there's still work to be done. 1 in 3 girls step away from sport during adolescence, compared to 1 in 10 boys. Let's change that narrative! Together, let’s continue inspiring girls and women to play sports, stay active, and thrive in a community of support and encouragement.🙌 #GirlsinSport #NationalGirlsandWomeninSportsDay #WomeninSport #ngwsd #ChangingLivesThroughSport #YEG

Since this really is a business platform and most of you are familiar with the word "costs". I can see where this hearing will take Womens Sports fast. Why fund two teams in any school if males really welcomed in women's sports? I'm not advocating this path however from a money management standpoint, a single team policy saves BIG money. I am advocating a return to the more recent traditional separation of male and females in sport. Where are the feminists? https://lnkd.in/gzTMVAD2
