Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Emancipation Day, is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. Though most states ended slavery after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, it took over two years for the news to arrive in Galveston, Texas. Major General Gordon Granger's arrival and proclamation freed the last of over 200,000 Texan slaves on June 19, 1865. At Toll Brothers, our BELIEVE Employee Resource Group helped educate our employees on the significance of this holiday. Thank you to our BELIEVE co-chairs, Crystal Vecchione and Bryson Echols, for keeping us informed. The picture below features BELIEVE Co-Chairs Bryson Echols (L), Business Analyst, and Crystal Vecchione (C), Employee Relations Manager, with their ERG Executive Sponsor, Thomas Murray (R), Regional President, FL, IL, MI, and SC.

Why be first when you could be last? Be the last employee… … who has to work without the support of an ERG. … who has to transition without support from HR. … to be told to hide their family while at work. … who has to advocate for supplier diversity. … to work without an active DEI department. … who has to take vacation days instead of parental leave. … who has to take unpaid leave instead of bereavement leave. … to be used as a token for their entire community. … to be told they are using the wrong bathroom. … to not bring their partner to the holiday party out of fear. … to be told they just “aren’t the right fit” for the promotion. … to live in fear of being outed at work. Are you a CHANGEMAKER?

So why is it when a patient is bleeding , their iron count is low, their blood count is low and their primary care puts in an urgent request for surgeon appointment your mercy surgical clinic can’t get them in until October with any of the doctors? 1) this puts the patient in danger of developing other problems 2) this will end up making the patient go to the ER and have undue cost 3) may result in the patient getting un needed blood transfusions This will make insurance co unhappy I understand there are shortages however this is at the expense of patients well being. Hire more NP to do postoperative visits then. Recruit more doctors if they are booked all appointments even urgent ones for months then obviously you need another doctor!

Today is Human Rights Day, and we're reminded of the fundamental principles that bind us all together as a global community. Respect for human rights is not just a legal obligation but a moral imperative. One vital aspect of respecting human rights is honoring people's wishes. Every individual's voice, choices and beliefs deserve consideration and respect. It's about recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of each person, regardless of their background or beliefs. Let's remember that by embracing diversity and upholding the rights and choices of every individual, we contribute to a world that is fairer, more just and more compassionate. Today, Chuhak & Tecson’s D&I Council is proud to recognize Left Handers Day — a day to celebrate being left-handed and living in a world designed for right-handers. The science in this area indicates that the brain is the cause, as right-handed people are led by the left side of the brain while left-handers are more “right brained.” Being ‘right brained’ suggests that left-handers are more creative, analytical, verbal and have better language skills, according to Robert S. Herbst a left-handed attorney, wellness expert, motivational speaker and powerlifter. Today, firm president, Mitch Weinstein, shared some of his own thoughts with us: “Did you know that 12% of the world is left handed? Neither did I, but as a proud left-hander, I know full well what it is like to live in a world very much designed for right-handed people. Growing up, two of my least favorite school memories were: (1) having to locate special scissors, always smaller, with the green handle, to try and cut things (drop by my office today and you can sample my left-handed pair of scissors!); and (2) not being able to regularly use those ultra-cool erasable ink pens (I could use them, but the smudging that occurred on the side of my left hand was a huge mess). “Even though we left-handers represent 12% of the population, we only get 1 out of 365 days a year to be recognized! That seems way out of proportion but I, along with my left-handed peers, are in good company with notables such as Presidents Bush (H.W.), Clinton, Ford, Obama and Reagan; sports legends LeBron James, Phil Mickelson, Martina Navratilova and Babe Ruth; inventors and thinkers Aristotle, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg; and celebrities Lady Gaga, Jimmy Hendrix, Jennifer Lawrence, Sir Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey. In any event, as we strive to focus on inclusiveness here at our firm, we acknowledge that whether you are right brained, left brained, left-handed, right-handed, or even ambidextrous, we are #OneFirm at Chuhak & Tecson — 365 days a year.” #LeftHanders #Inclusion #ChuhakandTecson #Righttherewithyou

Human Rights' conditions Investigative research analyst, monitoring, documenting and reporting Human Rights' abuses.
Intersectional Approach to Human Rights Dean's approach to human rights advocacy is characterized by its intersectionality, recognizing that various forms of oppression and discrimination are often interconnected. This holistic perspective is evident in the breadth of causes he has championed throughout his career. His activism has included campaigns against anti-Semitism, reflecting his commitment to combating religious and ethnic discrimination. As an anti-war activist, Dean has consistently advocated for peaceful conflict resolution and nuclear disarmament, understanding the profound impact that war and nuclear weapons have on human rights. Dean has also been a vocal supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights, providing feedback to international bodies on issues affecting this community. His advocacy in this area demonstrates his understanding that human rights must encompass all aspects of identity and that true justice can only be achieved when all individuals are free from discrimination and persecution. In addition, Dean has been a strong opponent of laws that criminalize poverty. Instead, he advocates for compassionate social policies that uphold human dignity and address the root causes of economic inequality. This stance reflects his belief that economic rights are intrinsically linked to other human rights and that poverty is often both a cause and consequence of human rights violations. Ethical Innovation and Technology Beyond his work in traditional human rights advocacy, Dean has demonstrated a keen interest in the intersection of technology and human rights. Recognizing the profound impact that technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), can have on society, Dean has become a vocal advocate for ethical innovation. His efforts in this area focus on promoting AI regulation that protects human rights and ensures transparency and accountability in technological development. Dean understands that while AI and other emerging technologies have the potential to greatly benefit humanity, they also pose significant risks if not developed and deployed ethically. By advocating for responsible AI development, Dean is helping to shape a future where technological progress aligns with human rights principles, ensuring that innovation serves to enhance rather than undermine human dignity and freedom.

His Greek heritage, particularly the concept of filotimo—which emphasizes honor, dignity, and respect for others—played a crucial role in shaping his worldview and moral compass. Originally established nationally in 1885 to recognize George Washington, #PresidentsDay was inaugurated as a static holiday in 1971. That’s when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, passed in 1968, went into effect. Goals of this legislation included: • Shifting some federal holidays from specific dates to predetermined Mondays • Creating more three-day weekends for American workers Some states still celebrate individual presidents’ birthdays, but Presidents' Day is widely viewed as a celebration all presidents—past and present. Happy #PresidentsDay! 🇺🇸 Source: History.com, Time.com

Embracing the spirit of December being Human Rights Month, let's reflect on the fundamental principles that shape our workplaces. In every office, every industry, and every profession, let's champion equality, dignity, and justice for all. As we celebrate Human Rights Month, let's ensure that the rights of every worker are not just acknowledged but upheld. As the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." Take this time to consider how you can advocate not only for your rights but the rights of everyone in the workplace. "Equity means promoting just and fair inclusion throughout society and creating the conditions in which everyone can participate, prosper, and reach his or her full potential." - Stanford Social Innovation Review Together, let's foster an inclusive workplace where every voice is heard and every right is respected. #HumanRightsMonth #WorkplaceEquality #WorkersRights #equitymatters #stepupforequity
