Chloe Gordon asked me what the key differences are between being inspired by another design and directly copying.
Here's what I had to say ---->
Copying is easy, quick, and doesn’t require much thought.
Inspiration, on the other hand, is a constant pushback and conversation that occurs within a designer's process. It takes more time and requires deep thought and experimentation. Copying involves no experimentation—it's just a quick screenshot you drop into Illustrator and emulate. Inspiration, however, takes many forms and isn't limited to graphic design; it can be found everywhere a creative might look—in nature, architecture, poetry, and other art forms.
Copying leads to shrinking in on oneself, while inspiration leads to expansion and an abundance of ideas.
