When I'm not actively posting on LinkedIn, I'm busy learning, building and growing. There are times when I feel like giving up (on tech) but still find opportunities to challenge myself, like this #Farmhackathon from Top Universe and The Boltcliq Company a few weeks back. We had ~ 3 days to create a farming solution for the Nigerian market. Prompt dropped on Friday night, submission was Sunday night. We had to form teams to be a part of the competition. I notified members that I was interested and open to forming a team and 2 people reached out to me. I hurriedly came up with ideas, we brainstormed and I got into designing the proposed solution. My team worked all Friday and Saturday night, until we delivered. Something got to me about this very team. We communicated. Seems little, but in tech, communication is almost everything. We communicated every step of the way and I submitted and showcased the solution as the Team lead. Finally, results we're in. My team tied with another team because they couldn't choose who did a better job. Kudos to Binta & Neon 🙌🏽👏🏽. Things like this, gives me a boost to remain in my Tech professional pursuit. Where are the working class startups? A different post from me today! Completely inspired by an article shared by Asher Flowers of Broken Barrier Tequila (have a nose on his linkedin, hes doing AMAZING things). The piece sheds light on the challenges faced by working-class entrepreneurs in raising that all important additional funding, it not only resonated with my experiences, but also has a lot of parallels with our mission at Mogul Drinks “disrupting the status quo”. So I thought I’d share a few things that really struck a chord with me and what, importantly, we’ve done differently to challenge this. 💸 Funding Hurdles Many start-ups rely on substantial investments from affluent backgrounds, think bank of wealthy Mum and Dad, at Mogul Drinks we’re completely and very proudly, self-funded! Where we’ve had gaps, we’ve taken out a strategic British Business Bank loan. Better still we’ve taken this in tactical chunks so as to not over burden the business with heavy overheads as we grow! We’re trying to innovate with our money, not just with our product. 🌱 Access to Mentors In a landscape where influential networks are already firmly set and that often dictate success before they’ve even started, we on the other hand, really embraced the power of networking, bottom up. Meeting with as many industry folk as possible and leveraging every interesting conversation going. It took time, but you’ve seen my posts waxing lyrical about our advisors, both of these came from introductions, to other introductions to finally an introduction with yours truly Tim Fussell and Ben Franks FRSA DipWSET. Ever heard that phrase “if you don’t ask you don’t get” well that was our mantra here, we didn’t have “gold dust” connections immediately, but now we have then, we completely recognise how valuable they are to the business. 🚀 The “In” Crowd 42% of investment went to founders originating from the same 7% of the population. Read that again, let it sink in. What are we doing differently here, well, we're shouting it from the rooftops (or, you know, from our LinkedIn profiles) that we're on the lookout for investors who share our passion for shaking up the Spritz market. We’re doing it publicly. We’re offering two routes too, SEIS investment and a very cool kickstarter (even if I do say so myself). Watch this space for more details on the latter… And there you have it, another glimpse/ rambling into my world. And at the heart of it all: support and investment! 😇 Angel groups (also called Syndicates) are a great entrypoint to investing, it will help you build knowledge, skills, and network. 🏃🏻♀️ I acquired a lot of experience in this, when running the Syndicte at FoodHack and ClimateHack. Although my main focus these days is PINC, I’m still part of some angel groups on the side. 🙋🏽♀️ Unfortunately these rooms are still VERY homogeneous. Because how cool would it be to create a platform that showcased talented small businesses across New Zealand and helped Kiwi's support local? Their local makers, bakers, creators, growers, artists... and more. How many good businesses have been started and grown at Farmers Markets around New Zealand. Hopefully this website will increase that number...

Fast forward to today, and that joke is now a reality. DÒDÒ isn’t just an idea anymore; it’s a real product. But getting here wasn’t easy. I saw a gap in the UK’s £1.17 billion rum market—a need for something fresh, something that speaks to people who are tired of the same old pirate-themed rums. I wanted something that celebrates culture, blending the rich heritage of West Africa and the Caribbean with a modern twist.
