I talked to a hiring manager about hiring a developer in #brazil. "They need to speak perfect English..." Well shit. I can barely speak English and I'm from California 😂. Here's the truth. ➡ Communication is absolutely important. The ability to collaborate and process information efficiently is mission critical for development processes. Here's ALSO the truth. ➡ 75% of the time you are going to be communicating on Slack anyway... Here's ALSO ALSO the truth. ➡ You want to pay them 50% less than market anyway but want them to speak perfect English, have a PHD in Machine Learning and work 60 hours. 🙄 Get a grip... #recruiting #nearshoredevelopment #developerjobs
"You want to pay them 50% less than market anyway but want them to speak perfect English, have a PHD in Machine Learning and work 60 hours". ===> Modern SLAVERY !
Tony Teshara great post! I think the most important thing is not the accent but if we’re able to understand each other. Everyone has a background, a history, an origin, so we must respect whether the person is Indian, Brazilian or American. If we can transmit the idea and share experiences clearly, the game is on! Thanks for this awesome topic 👏🏻👍🏻
if they wanna a perfect english, ask him to hire a native guy or a english teacher 🫡
It reminds me a lot of that other prank "jr. position requiring 10+ years of xp" 😂 😂 😂
Well some of those profiles speak great English, since it they had to get a PhD they need to have great English.
Arruma uma faxina aí pra nois nego. Nunca te pedi nada.
Hey Tony Teshara! I'm a brazilian jr dev and I'm currently looking for a position abroad. I noticed you recruit a lot for latin america, do you think we can chat anytime?
We were wondering about your English, Tony Teshara...
Communication skills are important but is not the definition of be a good developer, just mean a good speaker lol. Course high roles will require a clear communication level to avoid ambiguity and misunderstanding.
Senior Software Engineer
2mo"perfect" is just not going to happen, even for a native speaker as you just said! for an average/mid level developer totally agree that things can go more over Slack, but in a bit more cross functional role and/or senior position, communicating well as an engineer is something that wil definitely make the environment and discussions easier with those who don't speak so well.
