“Lack of childcare is preventing small businesses from growing”. And also lack of community and thinking thru alternative ways of what childcare looks like is hurting small business. We should defintely hold our politicians accountable AND also do the work to address the issue ourselves. I’ve yet to meet a woman that isn’t driven enough to make change when she’s sick and tired of being sick and tired. We can discuss civily about the nuances surrounding resources, education, access/network etc. That said, there is power in community. There is power in parenthood that will pursue better for our children than the power of any politician ever would. #smallbusinesssolution #balance #Momprenuer #startup #alexandriava #northernvirginia #bettertogther

Goldman Sachs polled business owners thoughts on child care and its effect on their companies: Nearly 60% said there aren't sufficient high-quality and affordable options in their communities, which is affecting their workforce. ~35% of those owners said that a lack of daycare slots, as well as their high cost, is forcing employees to cut hours or forgo work entirely. Small Business Majority, an advocacy organization with 85,000 members poll: 1/3rd have lost revenue and earnings because of employees' child care challenges. ~1/2 have seen lower productivity. ~1/4 of owners said they had to shut down their business because of their own child care challenges. "Particularly since the start of the pandemic, there has been a "groundswell" of employees talking more openly about their struggles with child care, and of employers being more actively engaged on the issue, said Sarah Rittling, the executive director of the First Five Years Fund, an early childhood education advocacy group. "The cost of child care has been rising for years — typically outpacing inflation annually. In 2023, child care cost families $11,582 on average, according to Child Care Aware, a national advocacy organization. That is roughly 10% of a married couple's median income and 32% of the median income of a single parent. "Small business owners told Goldman Sachs they'd like to see government support for improving their options. As many as 77% would support an increase in federal funding for child care." NOTE: 77% of U.S. wants federally funded child care, and we fund wars instead.

There are so many issues that need to be addressed today for organizations and businesses to be successful. Here is one. 'It's pretty simple: parents can't work without child care, which makes child care an ECONOMIC issue. And right now, it is an economic issue that is absolutely crushing everyone from families and early childhood educators and providers to small businesses and the economy at large. No one is untouched by this crisis.' It is time for culture change. It is time for decision makers, designers and CEO's to understand that these issues are very real and are FUNDAMENTALLY holding back the success of their business. It is called strategic design to strategically plan and design for the alleviation of these issues so that people are not limited by struggle (struggling to live, put food on the table, taking care of their families, etc) and can focus on bringing their best selves to work. Let's design these changes into a new culture to make business and organizations thrive. Intentionally designing a culture where people can bring their best selves to the table. What are their best selves? Having a peace of mind that their families are taken care of, they are well, they are growing and progressing with their purpose in life and are surrounded by love, abundance, support and meaningful connections. What if this is the future of work? Intentionally designing the future we want is in our hands. Awareness is the first step. Thank you Reshma Saujani for bringing this issue to the forefront. -------- Working with www.designveritas.com will help move the needle forward in addressing the issues that are holding organizations and businesses back so that your people can thrive. Let's bring this awareness to the forefront of design, organizational and strategic decisions. #culturechange #futureofwork #childcare

The time is NOW to flip the script on childcare. It is NOT just a parent’s problem. It’s an ECONOMIC problem that affects us all. Every single one of us. Parent, or not. Here’s why: EVERYONE feels the strain when affordable childcare options are scarce. Not to mention, we’re losing billions in our economy each year due to the lack of affordable and quality childcare. Supporting increased federal funding and legislation for childcare isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s ESSENTIAL for economic stability and growth. Do you agree that it’s an economic issue? #childcarecrisis #smallbusiness #economy

In a new Goldman Sachs survey, more than one-third of small business owners reported that employees have been forced to cut work hours or forgo work entirely because of child care challenges. As families and businesses struggle to manage the impacts of the widespread child care crisis, protecting existing child care options that can help fill these gaps, such as the au pair cultural exchange program, is essential. Providing additional flexibility and trusted care, au pairs can help families juggle work, child care, and other responsibilities while providing unique and enriching cultural exchange opportunities. 📊 More findings from the survey here! https://rb.gy/cx2zns #ChildCare #SmallBusiness #AuPair #AuPairProgram
