Member Companies and Trade Associations: The Recipe for Effective Collaboration As an Executive Director of a Pharma Association, and also as a participant in many other associations, I can easily tell which companies truly leverage their membership and which are just paying fees. Those that work well with trade associations share these common themes: Collaboration – Associations are places for finding common ground. The Rolling Stones were right: you can't always get what you want. You have to collaborate. Support – Associations usually have 3-5 priorities to promote. If you want them to do well on what's important for your company, lend a hand. Provide data, share best practices from abroad, or offer alternative models. Communication – Companies that stand out stay in touch. They provide feedback, attend meetings, and ensure their voices are heard. I was always puzzled by people who came to association meetings and said nothing. Leadership – Company representatives leverage the association by taking initiative, volunteering for committees or task forces, and leading projects that align with both their company's and the association's missions. Relationships – Successful company representatives take time to build relationships with the association's staff, remembering that everyone is in it for the long run. We recently joined an event aimed at consulting with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations (ACCOs) across SA. We wanted to dive into a few key things: -Figuring out what's working well and what's strong in the ACCO sector right now. -Hearing about where ACCOs want to go in the future and who they want to team up with. -Finding out what's helping or holding back the growth and lasting power of the ACCO scene. We had Bill from KSJ Consulting Service facilitate the session, a totally Aboriginal-run business, who are leading workshops all over the state. We encourage all ACCOs in South Australia to jump in and share their thoughts in this vital process. Your input is super important because it'll help in two big ways: -Shaping a government framework that'll guide agencies on how to better connect with ACCOs and pump more funding into the sector ("the Framework"). -Helping craft an ACCO sector Strategic Plan that'll map out where the sector's at now and what areas need to grow and get stronger ("the ACCO sector Strategic Plan"). Which essential digital skills are required at Board level? The project seeks to provide an answer to the above question by selecting candidates matching the 5 identified set of requirements. 📅 Candidates can send their applications by 30 September 2024. The final goal of the project is to identify the “Digital Ready for Boards” profiles and engage them as part of a community of peers and of listed and non-listed companies in Italy.
