I’d like to share a recent experience of mine. Rest assured, this is not a rant or a negative post. It’s simply an observation I’ve made and I hope it resonates with some of you. Recently, I had a conversation with an enthusiastic recruiter who was quite impressed with my profile, particularly for a B2B/B2C eCommerce role. The role seemed tailor-made for my skills and experience. However, I was denied an interview because the duration of 2 of my contract roles on my resume was short!! This was the sole reason for the rejection. 😳 What I find perplexing is the disregard by some managers for the current economic climate and the challenging job market. As employees, we don’t make the decisions about who stays and who goes. We often find ourselves in the midst of reorgs or tons of offshoring initiatives, yet we are the ones penalized for circumstances beyond our control. How is that fair? I value ‘people’ over process and ‘empathy’ over a ‘my way or the highway’ approach. I’m not afraid to take chances, and more often than not, this attitude has served me well. Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if it’s just me, or if we’re surrounded by people who’ve lost their sense of compassion!! In the corporate world, I yearn to see more LEADERS who can recognize potential in a candidate and nurture it, helping them become a stronger asset to WIN more customers. If you’re a hiring manager, please understand that most of us don’t have control over our job tenure. We don’t leave roles randomly. Our tenure is often dictated by factors beyond our control, and it’s unfair to deny us opportunities based on this. Please, show some EMPATHY! Please share to bring awareness. 🚀 Is Hiring for Talent and Potential the Way Forward? 🚀 Lately, I've been thinking about the whole idea of the "perfect fit" in hiring. In finance, we're often on the lookout for candidates who tick all the boxes. But maybe, just maybe, we should shift our focus a bit. There's something to be said for hiring people with raw talent and genuine passion. They bring fresh perspectives and energy, sparking innovation and driving the team forward in unexpected ways. What if we started hiring for potential? These are the people who might not have every qualification yet but are eager to learn and grow.
