PSA TO ALL MY PUBLIC ACCOUNTING PEEPS HEADING INTO BUSY SEASON! While the work is "trickling" in over the next few weeks, do yourself some favors and get things in order: ✔ Set up calendar appointments (include your significant other if you have one) on things coming up: sports events for kids, appointments, networking events, literally ALL OF IT...This helps put everyone on the same page and sparks conversations if you need help facilitating things at home on any given day. It also lets your co-workers know if you will be available at any point of the day during our busiest time of the year (for my single friends that are wondering how this applies to them 👊 ). ✔ Submit your receipts for your dependent care FSA, health FSA or HSA, if required. You may need to determine your plan rules for dates on expenses incurred and reimbursement deadlines, but now is a prime time for that! 😊 ✔ Go get a hair cut, teeth cleaning, pick up your glasses from the optometrist, go to the gym, get adjusted...AKA take. care. of. yourself (NOW and for the entirety of busy season, please!) ✔ Touch base with your clients (if you haven't already 😎) - set expectations, discuss timing, introduce yourself if you have new relationships. Make yourself notes of discussions had for when the work makes it to you so you aren't scrambling to recall these conversations later. ✔ CLEAN UP YOUR EMAIL - a challenge for the masses, I'm sure. There's something to be said about a fresh inbox going into busy season, you don't get as overwhelmed with the extra noise sitting in your mailbox and you might have a better picture of what needs to be prioritized. Use one suggestion or use all five, just don't do nothing. Set yourself up for success when and where you can - you'll thank me later (well, hopefully). What are others doing now or before busy times of the year so that things run smoothly? I'm curious to know! Here's to a happy and healthy 2024 busy season, my friends! 💥 #lbmcandme #publicaccounting #womeninaccounting #success
Tori Farmer, CPA Great post. I'm working on making sure I have everything I need to be successful this tax season. Almost like an athlete gets ready for a big game! I'm hoping to be consistent with - Journaling - Eating right - Reading - Exercising - Sacred time with loved ones I've let tax season get in the way of those things before and this year I want to put an end to that! For me, that includes meal prepping, planning out dates in advance, and asking for help when I need it.
Love this - all are on point, especially the scheduling all activities on the calendar, taking care of yourself and the CLEAN UP YOUR EMAIL! This is a good thing to do every quarter if possible, just to stop getting junk that doesn't add value to your life anymore! I would add to put reminders in your calendar for drinking water and eating too - all too easy to forget to do when you're staring down a long task list each day!
Sounds like you’re rolling up to tax season like a true professional! This is great insights for all professionals in their field as they enter their “busy season.” Thanks for sharing!
Great point most important one is to create a work life balance.
I just may have to print this list!
Solid List !

10moYes - this is solid! There's a lot we can proactively do before busy season to have us as ready to go as possible. I really appreciate this list and would add: Find 15 minutes for you each day. It's hard to carve out an hour or more for ourselves, but 15 minutes is doable: a brisk walk, a quiet moment with a cup of tea, or a call with a loved one. These become medicinal when things feel especially challenging!
