BREAKING: after a rocky start, the Toronto Global Globetrotters made a tremendous late-game comeback and beat the Toronto DestinaTOrs 15-14 in the final inning. ⚾ We had a great time yesterday playing softball with our friends at Destination Toronto. Despite an initial unseasonable chill, both our teams came out to play a nail-biting game and were eventually greeted by sunny skyline views at Little Norway Park. When's the rematch?

You’ve likely heard Toronto described as a city within a park. Well, here’s a visual representation of the city that really drives that point home. Created by the University of Toronto’s School of Cities, this dot map uses City of Toronto data to plot out over 1.2 million trees. While the data isn’t perfect (it’s hard to track backyard trees, etc.), the map does offer a view of Toronto that’s both familiar and strange all at once. It’s easy to pick out the Financial District, of course, but other features like highways, rivers, golf courses and the Downsview lands also stick out. Meet our new board member! Chris Yip is the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at Canada's #1 University and is world-renowned for his work in biomedical engineering. Chris is a leader in molecular imaging with his research contributing to major discoveries in understanding diseases like Parkinson's and Dementia.    Beyond his interest in neuroscience, molecular systems biology and nanotechnology, Chris enjoys running and baking - or as he calls it #foodengineering.   Chris aims to have coffee with every student in his faculty at the University of Toronto. Considering that’s nearly 10,000 people, let's hope some of it is decaf! Our team had the opportunity to tour Toronto's newest food hall at the historic Waterworks building! Once occupied by St. Andrew's Market in the 1830s, the site has been revitalized as a hub for local food business. Aside from the diverse cusine and impressive Art Deco architecture, what's the significance of another food hall in downtown Toronto? Food halls like this and the new Wellington Market at The Well are great for local entrepreneurs, as operating in a shared space costs significantly less than owning a single restaurant. Not to mention, when they're conveniently located in the heart of Canada's economic engine, food halls draw in tourists and residents alike, boosting our local economy. Offering staple Toronto eats like Harry's Charbroiled, Otto's Berlin Doner and Musoshin Ramen, Waterworks shows off the ingenuity and diversity in Toronto.

On Friday, the federal government announced $10 million in funding to support the University of Toronto's Grid Modernization Centre, the first of its kind in Canada. The centre will convene a variety of stakeholders — from utilities to municipalities to companies — to develop a more efficient and resilient power grid and test green tech solutions. Demand for electricity will grow as we transition toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Any Toronto Region business that uses technology will benefit from having a sustainable action plan for keeping up with #cleantech advancements for years to come. We were proud to join Minister Ya'ara Saks, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment Julie Dabrusin and our Board Member Chris Yip at this exciting announcement.

The province will inject $73 million to speed up the traffic-clogging Gardiner construction, fast-tracking the process by a whole year. Drivers will face less gridlock, but there is one key condition for to happen. https://lnkd.in/e9pmnDT9

It’s our job to be optimistic about Toronto, but this isn’t naive idealism. The city’s growth trajectory has brought serious challenges, but these are common to the great metropolitan centres of the world.
