A.I., A.I., A.I.- We see it in nearly every headline now– but what is it actually doing in the retail space? Johanna Hinkle from our Innovation and Incubation team spoke with HomePage News to share the REAL changes generative artificial intelligence is bringing to self-checkout. “It’s really exciting to look at the specific advancements in each technology where it’s not just general capabilities that we have anymore, but we can detect really subtle behaviors and differences between items… So this has really expanded the way we’re able to use things like item identification and user behavior analysis and biometric validation. It’s not just theory. We can tell a Red Delicious apple from a Honey Crisp. We have solutions that can look at and identify thousands of items without having to individually scan them.” And it doesn’t stop there, higher level AI-driven analysis of checkout and on-the-shelf data is improving inventory management, giving insights into customer behaviors, and providing the fuel for management to make better business decisions. 🍎 How do you like them apples? (We scanned them- they’re Honey Crisp) Check out Johanna’s full insights along with others from the retail industry in the full article – a great read! https://lnkd.in/eJZBfUZy #artificialintelligence #innovation #retail

A good article on some of the focus of AI in retail. I was excited to see at NRF that the focus was on making core retail better vs. truly reinventing retail. The challenge will be how retailers balance these new capabilities with the technical debt and core changes they need to do now to keep up with customer expectations, empowering employees, and truly optimizing processes. https://lnkd.in/gt9Q25PH

Boosting Profitability with Unique Industry Leading Training Programs for Retailers and Those Supplying Them With Goods or Services
A recent survey of retailers and consumer goods companies by Relex, and reported by Chain Store Age this April, 57% of these companies plan to invest in predictive and generative AI in the next three to five years. AI and machine learning was their 5th spending priority for technology. This supports our last post on the speed of AI adoption. The top 4 were: Enhancing e-commerce capabilities Improving inventory management Improving demand forecasting Leveraging data analytics. Respondents rated rapidly shifting customer demand, global events and disruptions, and inaccurate understanding of customer demand as their biggest threats to supply chain efficiency over the next three years. This is good news as retailers and CG companies have a lot of scope to improve e-commerce performance by exploiting omni-channel opportunities, which in turn will improve inventory management and aid more accurate demand forecasting. Well designed data analytics will also provide the insights needed to support the first three priorities. More guidance on how to do some of these things can be found in Martecs consumer goods WIKI. #Retail, #ConsumerGoods, #Ecommerce, #SupplyChain, #RetailTech
