📚 How are small-scale biogas plants in Vietnam affected by policy issues? 🌾 BRT researcher Marek Jelínek, BRT director, Assoc. Latvia's burgeoning #biomethane industry is a hot topic, especially as the country has only recently started producing biomethane. The Central Statistical Bureau is still developing its methods for accurately collecting and recording data on produced and exported biogas. Currently, Latvia lacks specific regulations for counting produced and exported biogas. This regulatory gap poses significant challenges for businesses, particularly in avoiding #double-counting biomethane for renewable energy purposes both in the producing country and in the country to which the company intends to export it. Understanding and navigating these complexities is crucial for businesses looking to thrive in the evolving biomethane market.

Latvia has only recently begun producing #biomethane, so the Central Statistical Bureau, responsible for counting energy resources, is still refining its procedures for gathering and registering data on produced and exported biogas. Currently, there are no specific Latvian regulations for counting produced and exported biogas. 💡 This is one of the reasons which make it so challenging to avoid double-counting biomethane for renewable energy purposes, both in the producing country and in the country to which the company intends to export it. #Biomethane is gaining momentum in Europe. Harmonising block-wide policies could bring the #EU closer to its #renewableenergy targets and allow more companies to choose renewable gas. We talked to Anthony Lorin, Senior Policy Analyst at the European Biogas Association, about what should happen to develop a single biomethane market in Europe and what consumers stand to gain. "More supply available beyond national borders could eventually achieve lower prices for buyers. It will also make it easier for industrial consumers to secure the necessary supply," Anthony explained.
