Let's talk about hiring A players. Far and away, the best way to validate exceptional talent is with backchannel references. This has been the biggest secret weapon my company building journey through-out my career. The three "back channel" questions that have served me well in separating the A Players from others. 💪 💪 💪 For this skill and area, where would this candidate fall in the list of top 50. Why? If the candidate is not in top 3-5, with very specific distinguishable examples, it's hard to see them as A Player. 💪 💪 💪 Let's say, the candidate joins this role and six months later you hear the news that things didn't work out. Based on what you know about the strengths and opportunities of the candidate, what would think contributed to them not being successful? This question brings out deep insights that can sometimes sway a hiring decision or give me deep insight into the development plan for the candidate (if being an A player checks out). 💪 💪 💪 Would you hire this person again?
