TBI Tuesday for MedSLPs! - Interdisciplinary teams..where such a unique collaboration for brain injury rehabilitation isn't just an idea, but a reality. Imagine if neurologists, psychologists, physical therapists, speech pathologists, and occupational therapists all came together in one space. Their goal? To create tailored treatment plans that transcend the boundaries of their individual fields, all for the benefit of a single patient. Our interdisciplinary teams are uniting to change the way brain injury treatment is perceived and executed. By poolin`g our diverse knowledge, skills, and experiences, we can diagnose more accurately, and design patient-centered treatment plans that truly cater to the complex needs of each individual. What makes this approach special is its comprehensiveness, its ability to grasp not only the physical but also the cognitive and emotional aspects of a patient's well-being. This is a holistic approach that seamlessly integrates medical, psychological, and rehabilitative interventions. The potential of this collaborative revolution is immense. The transformative shift it brings in brain injury treatment promises not just a higher success rate in recovery, but also a better quality of life for patients and their families. Remember that together, we can make a difference. And together, we can change lives. October is Physical Therapy Month—a time to celebrate and raise awareness about the vital role physical therapists play in improving lives. Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or aiming to enhance mobility and strength, physical therapy can be a game-changer. Physical therapists (PTs) are movement experts who use targeted exercises, hands-on care, and patient education to improve motion and reduce pain. They help people of all ages recover from surgeries, prevent injuries, and manage long-term conditions like arthritis, heart disease, and neurological disorders. During #PhysicalTherapyMonth, let’s take a moment to thank these professionals for their dedication to empowering patients. Whether you’re seeking to improve your quality of life or regain function, physical therapists are here to support your journey to wellness. Let’s recognize the life-changing impact of PT and spread the word about the importance of movement for overall health. 💪 #ChoosePT #PhysicalTherapyMonth

Let's continue what we have started discussing in the last post. Vestibular Rehabilitation: Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized form of therapy designed to address vestibular disorders and improve balance, reduce dizziness, and enhance overall function. It is typically delivered by healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists or occupational therapists, who have expertise in treating vestibular conditions. The goals of vestibular rehabilitation include: 1. Decreasing symptoms: Through specific exercises and maneuvers, vestibular rehabilitation aims to reduce dizziness, and other symptoms associated with vestibular disorders. 2. Improving balance and coordination: Rehabilitation exercises target the underlying impairments in balance and coordination, helping individuals regain stability and confidence in their movements. 3. Enhancing functional abilities: Vestibular rehabilitation focuses on improving everyday activities affected by vestibular dysfunction, such as walking, climbing stairs, and driving. 4. Promoting compensation: In cases where the vestibular system cannot fully recover, vestibular rehabilitation helps individuals adapt and compensate for their deficits, maximizing their functional abilities. Treatment approaches may include habituation exercises, gaze stabilization exercises, balance training, and sensory integration techniques. The specific treatment plan is tailored to each individual's needs based on their assessment results and goals. #VestibularRehabilitation #Dizziness #PhysicalTherapy #OccupationalTherapy #BalanceTraining #FunctionalRestoration #SensoryIntegration #HabituationExercises #GazeStabilizationExercises #QualityofLife

Physical Therapist | Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy | Host of PT MEAL Podcast
"Torture" and Talk This statement was coined while I was seeing my patient during our session. He candidly shared that he tells his staff that he's about to get himself "tortured" when he's notifying them where he's going, meaning he's going to his physical therapy treatment. Later in our session, my patient thanked me for listening to his concerns and always leaving with new information during our time, information that he thinks is vital to know what his condition is and what's going to happen next. I quipped that he's always welcome to come in the clinic for his torture and talk. And that is where it started. As a physical therapist working in a psychiatric hospital, most of my time with my patients entails some form of conversation. It can range from just me listening to them about their issues or concerns, providing them with education about their complaints and conditions, empowering them to take charge of their health, offering them a different perspective on stuff to just simply discussing their day-to-day lives. I find myself having a discussion/conversation more than providing our common procedural interventions, interventions that are important but more so, the patients need more of the education, information, and assurance that our talks give them. My experience today reinforces that our role as physical therapists extends far beyond merely administering exercises and interventions. Rather, it underscores the significance of investing time in building meaningful patient relationships. By taking the time to truly understand their concerns, fears, and aspirations, we can empower them to take charge of their health journey. Through open dialogue, education, and a compassionate approach, we can alleviate their anxieties and uncertainties, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to manage their well-being. As physical therapists, let's not only focus on the technical aspects of our practice but also prioritize the human connection, recognizing that it is often through these relationships that true healing and empowerment occur.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month; learn to Act F.A.S.T. Do you know the warning signs of a stroke? Learn how to recognize them: F = Face drooping or twisting A = Arm weakness S = Speech difficulty T = Time to call 911Become a stroke hero by learning F.A.S.T. to help save lives and spread awareness. If you have suffered a stroke, we can help you remain independent in your own home. Personalized stroke rehab addresses physical, cognitive, and emotional recovery. Our approach to stroke rehab centers on a few main principles: Many specialties, one team. A stroke can affect many parts of the body and mind, so we think it’s important for multiple specialties to work together. A team approach is often more efficient, too. For example, an occupational therapist (OT) and physical therapist (PT) might go for a walk with the patient together. The OT will focus on pathfinding and comprehension, while the PT will focus on gait and balance.

An Official Statement from TARA Mind Chief Medical Officer Richard Nockowitz, M.D. “Simply put, TARA Mind has created the most responsible and affordable access to the safest and most personalized delivery of IV Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) available for individuals whose mental health conditions do not improve with traditional treatments. Recently, there’s been inaccurate information circulating about IV-Ketamine Assisted Therapy, creating misperceptions about the safety and benefit of this treatment when delivered responsibly. In fact, decades of real-world experience with thousands of patients treated at the most prestigious academic medical centers and treatment facilities has shown that this therapy is extraordinarily safe, life-changing, and even life-saving. Like any other medical treatment, IV Ketamine-Assisted Therapy should always be delivered in a monitored medical setting by trained, licensed clinicians. When done this way, it is unquestionably safer and more effective for depression, suicidality, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and even substance use disorders, than other currently available treatments. We have a collective responsibility to differentiate between the medically-supervised administration of this highly beneficial treatment and its unfortunate misuse without responsible medical supervision.” #TARAMind #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #HR #WorkplaceWellness
