In this #PainAwarenessMonth of September, we are following the lead of IASP and focussing on the importance of paincare being: · Individualized · Multidisciplinary (or interdisciplinary!) · Multimodal A person living with pain is best supported by a team of practitioners from different disciplines offering multiple modes of paincare. It is even better when that team is closely collaborating in assessment and treatment using a shared biopsychosocial model and goals. For example: the prescription of an anti-depressant by a physician alongside exercise treatment from a physiotherapist, and CBT by a psychologist - all working closely together with regular team meetings. Are you working within a multidisciplinary (or interdisciplinary) paincare team? The terms multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary are frequently discussed and often considered one and the same. However, there are distinct differences. A multidisciplinary team is when a number of different professionals are working independently on their individual goals with a client. An interdisciplinary team is when a number of different professional disciplines work in a collaborative manner to achieve the same goal with a client. When working with individuals experiencing pain, it can be difficult finding clinicians with the appropriate skill set. Multidisciplinary teams are often formed by a number of individual clinicians working independently. At Retraining Pain, we adopt an interdisciplinary model of working, in which a team of pain specialist clinicians work collaboratively to help support and facilitate an individual to achieve their goals. You NEED to think about this before you book an intensive! When having a consultation with a potential client for therapy intensive services, it’s crucial to be thorough and thoughtful. Here are key considerations to keep in mind: 1️⃣ Assess Fit: Is this client’s situation suitable for an intensive? Consider their specific needs, history, and goals. Intensive therapy can be transformative, but it’s not the best fit for everyone. 🧐 2️⃣ Rule Out Guidelines: Develop clear guidelines on who would and wouldn’t benefit from an intensive. This might include considering the severity of their issues, their readiness for intensive work, and any potential risks. ❌✅ 3️⃣ Communication: Be transparent about what intensive therapy entails. Ensure the client understands the commitment, structure, and potential outcomes. Clear expectations lead to better outcomes. 🗣️📚 4️⃣ Goals and Outcomes: Discuss the client’s goals and how intensive therapy can help achieve them. Aligning on expectations helps both you and the client make an informed decision. 🎯🌟 Remember, your primary goal is to provide the best care possible. Sometimes that means recognizing when a client might benefit more from traditional therapy rather than an intensive. Your expertise and discernment are key! 🙌💙 📌 Save this post for your next consultation and follow for more insights on running a successful private practice! 👉🏽 @amandakbcoaching for more relatable and helpful content for private practice therapists #TherapyIntensives #TraumaTherapist #PrivatePracticeSuccess
