This September 30 I’ve been quiet and really needing space for reflection and more learning; a complex, critical and somewhat emotional process as I head in new learning directions specific to where I am at personally with truth and reconciliation. While I can’t quite articulate how my Masters has changed me, and perhaps might never be able to put it into writing, the gratitude I feel today for the experiences, stories and teachings I have been privileged to hear and be part of from/with so many incredible Indigenous peoples, is overwhelming. Miigwech. Nia:wen! Kinanaskomatin. 🧡 The collaborators at the table for this research project brought their full selves in ways I never could have anticipated and blew me away with their passion for the topic every day for years. It was raw, real, emotional, and trusting and for this, I have stretched and grown and been wildly uncomfortable. I have been grappled with the truth and trying to determine how best to support the people who shared their stories, the way forward from my small space in our world, and how to amplify the voices I think we need to be paying close attention to! While universities aren’t residential schools, they represent the education system in the Canadian context and were used as a tool for assimilation for decades. I am looking forward to sharing my contribution to how we might move forward in authentic ways and where the relationships built will continue to take us even beyond! #highered #twoeyedseeing #timeforreflection #NDTR #gratitude #beuncomfortable #personalgrowth

🌟 Embracing Learning Beyond the Classroom! 🌍📚 Throughout the year, our Leaways School London has been embracing learning away from the classroom environment and making the most of the wealth of locations and attractions close to the school to enhance pupils’ learning. As part of its outdoor education programme children and young people from across the school, including its primary classes, have visited a variety of educational, cultural and other locations including churches, mosques, temples and synagogues, museums and London landmarks. These trips are not only fun, which they most certainly are, they also help enhance the curriculum offered by the school. For example, a trip to the Bank of England Museum not only helps enhance learning about history, but it also supports learning about maths and how our economy works in the UK. Children and young people at Leaways have also taken educational visits to the Science and Natural History Museums, HMS Belfast, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern. The subjects where outdoor learning can support understanding include Religious Education, sciences, maths, English, art and design, history, and many others. Tony, who leads on Outdoor Education at Leaways, said: “We are very lucky at Leaways to have so much on offer, so close to our doorstep. As well as enhancing our learning in different curriculum subjects and enhancing cultural capital, these outdoor or outside school learning opportunities give us all a chance to understand more about London, about geography, to use our social skills including how to navigate the Tube system or buses. “Learning in the classroom establishes the foundation on subjects and then these visits really do enhance that learning. The young people really remember things from the visits, they remember what they see or hear on those trips. “The visits also break down preconceptions they might have about a particular subject or venue. Sometimes, before their visit, they might think something is going to be boring and they’re always pleasantly surprised!” https://lnkd.in/eNma9f6H 🌍🔍 🚀#LeawaysBeyondClassroom #LearningUnleashed #outdoorlearning

Done ✅ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign New Learning: Principles and Patterns of Pedagogy Education is in a state of flux – transitioning from traditional architectures and practices to new ecologies of teaching and learning influenced by the tremendous social and technological changes of our times. What changes are afoot today in workplaces, civic life and everyday community life? What are their implications for education? What are the possible impacts of contemporary social transformations on teaching and learning - including in the areas of technology, media, globalization, diversity, changing forms of work in the “knowledge society”, and, in these contexts, changing learner needs and sensibilities? This course explores three pedagogical paradigms: “didactic”, “authentic” and “transformative” learning. It takes an historical perspective in order to define the contemporary dimensions of what we term “new learning”. It prepares participants to make purposeful choices and link particular theories/instructional approaches to individual and group learning goals.
