Fostering radical collaboration to solve complex problems. Won't stop until there's #HealthforAll. | CEO @ Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) & Asst. Prof @ Mount Sinai Med
At Community Health Impact Coalition we break advocacy into 3 phases: build awareness, generate will, & drive action. 1️⃣ When we started, people laughed at the 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 of #proCHWs—no WHO guideline, little funding interest. Now, our field has robust guidance and funders echo our talking points (see below) 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀? ✅ Check 2️⃣ When we started, #CHWs were sidelined in policy talks about their roles, & the gender & labor movements nowhere to be found. Now, champions like margaret odera, Prossy Muyingo, and bupe sinkala are featured in NPR & the The New York Times, alongside Women in Global Health & PSI - Public Services International. 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹? 📈 On the rise! 3️⃣ When we started, only a handful of countries had #proCHW policies. Now, it's 34. Impressive, but 2/3 of #countdown countries are still without. 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 🚘2024 is our year to rev it up. ➡ Here's how we accelerate: https://lnkd.in/e-p-5X8C #UHCDay #HealthforAll

Did you know that every $1 invested in women's health unlocks $3 in economic growth 📈 We strongly believe in the transformative power of investing in women's health and well-being. We do this through various programs, including comprehensive maternal health programs that support mothers beyond the delivery room. We also create safe spaces for women and run peace-building programs that help women take on leadership roles in their communities. Each of these initiatives plays a vital role in not only uplifting women, but entire communities. #InvestInWomen #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #IWD24

It's as critical a time as any, to share CARE's recently published report, "Women in War: Leaders, Responders, and Potential," (which you can access here:https://lnkd.in/dfspV3MK) The report sheds light on the critical role women play in conflict areas. Some key findings from the report: #Unmet needs: Women prioritize #livelihoods (58% need assistance) and food (41% impacted by conflict). Threat of #sexualviolence: In 2021, over 257 million women lived in countries with significant reports of sexual violence in conflict. #Health risks: Compromised health services pose severe risks, with one in four babies born in 2022 within 50km of conflict and one in two maternal deaths occurring in conflict areas. #Exclusion: Women are often excluded from formal leadership structures, affecting peace and prosperity for all. Underrepresented narratives: Only 5% of conflict-related articles focus on women's experiences, and less than 0.3% depict women in conflict positively. It's time to prioritize and recognize women's leadership in conflict zones to pave the way for safer and more equitable futures. Let's work together to amplify these voices! #ConflictZones #WomenInConflict #AmplifyWomen

Serving as the majority in the healthcare industry, it is only fair that they can receive pay parity. In the fight for all, women are often forgotten as they are the ones at the headlines of the movement. After the regression in female bodily autonomy and equity, it has become vital that there be an improvement in the quality of female healthcare. #healthywomenforabetterworld
Why Women Community Health Workers? 👩⚕️ Constituting 70% of #CHWs globally, women are essential in delivering #HealthForAll, yet over 6 million are either unpaid or underpaid. During our recent #CSW68 side event with the Community Health Impact Coalition our panelists explored the economic and social impact of fair compensation for women CHWs, and spoke about policies and initiatives that ensure their right to decent wages and recognition of the value of their work. Professionalizing CHWs is a matter of gender and economic justice. Did you miss the event? Watch our side panel discussion now 👉 https://lnkd.in/dS8Yx-wM

Gender Equity Victoria's and Women's Health Services' joint campaign for improved funding for women's health and gender equity achieved an additional 16 million dollars of funding for Women's Health Services over two years from the Victorian Government. We are immensely grateful for this funding which has enabled 83 skilled workers across Victoria to establish, expand embed evidence-informed programs to build better health and gender equity outcomes for women. If funding is not extended the gains of the last two years are in jeopardy. If Victoria is to be our equal state funding must continue. To learn more about the impact of the Women's Health Services boost funding read the evaluation report of the funding. https://lnkd.in/gRKPtDTt https://lnkd.in/gRKPtDTt

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are vital in achieving health for all. 70% of CHWs are women. But most CHWs do not have the salaries, skills, supervision, and supplies they need to succeed. How do we make #proCHWs with career pathways the norm? And what impact would this have on global health goals and outcomes? How can we foster collaboration between policymakers, civil society, and women #CHWs networks to drive systemic change? Find answers to those questions by joining us and Women in Global Health for a #CSW68 parallel event: When? 9th of March, 1 PM UTC | 8:00 AM EST Where? Virtual Interpretation available in French and Spanish Register today https://lnkd.in/ex8KE3Ny

CORE VALUE HIGHLIGHT — We believe COMMUNITY is essential to sustain lifetime recovery. We are building a healthy community in which our women are contributing members of society. We need one another. We care for one another.
