As it has been a little over a month since I have started interning at Funding Societies Malaysia, I have decided to make a series of 3 posts expressing my thoughts on the values, experiences and differences compared to my last internship at Ernst & Young. Post 1: FSMY values Funding Societies establishes their core values the moment you are onboarded into the company. The acronym is G.E.T.F.S which stands for Grow Relentlessly, Enabling Teamwork while Disabling Politics, Test | Measure | Act, Focus on Impact, and Serve with Obsession. To “Grow Relentlessly” is to strive to become your best and most authentic selves and as an intern at FSMY, I do think that I am slowly but surely learning more about the industry as well as working out what kind of employee and ultimately, the person I might want to become. When “Enabling Teamwork while Disabling Politics”, I feel my colleagues and those higher up the ladder are indeed going out of their way to help and work together with me to get the job done without any complications. In the “Test | Measure | Act” value, FSMY makes an honest effort with a monthly townhall to brief all employees about the financial and social progress made so far by sharing the performance to date and setting realistic and ambitious goals that FSMY wants to achieve by the end of the year or the next. As for “Focus on Impact” where it is to create impact through bias for action and tangible results, I do not feel that I have reached such a stage where I can significantly and positively contribute to the company yet. However, I have been fortunate enough to see the impact that my high-ranking colleagues bring to FSMY such as getting recognition from government officials on the great financial potential FSMY can achieve in Malaysia. Lastly is to “Serve with Obsession”, which is to build win-win relationships for the long-term by having a customer obsession. Similarly, to impacting the company in a meaningful way, I do not think I have served long enough to be able to fully grasp the enthusiasm of serving the customer. This along with the fact that I am positioned in the Operations department who don’t deal with customers directly.
