💡 TfL Regulations: What You Need to Know to Stay Compliant Transport for London have introduced new regulations for HGVs over 12 tonnes from October 2024. HGVs will be required to have a three-star DVS rating or install the Progressive Safe System. A three-month transition period will be offered to the industry to comply with the new regulations. 🚚 The Direct Vision Standard system (and the Progressive Safe System requirement) were established as one of the measures of the London Vision Zero action plan. The aim of Vision Zero is to eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries through a series of initiatives that involve improving road infrastructure, enforcing traffic regulations, promoting safer vehicle design, and raising public awareness about road safety. Q: What is Transport for London's Direct Vision Standard HGV Permit Scheme? A: The DVS is a rating scale that aims to reduce the number of fatal collisions involving HGVs and vulnerable road users, where lack of vision is a contributing factor. as you can clearly see in this video, Vehicle Design Needs To Change!!! It is designed to objectively measure a driver’s direct view through the windows of an HGV cab, and to define the level of risk to road users near the vehicle. This is expressed as a star rating from zero (poor) to five stars (good). TfL have developed the DVS in collaboration with expert researchers at Loughborough University, and the DVS industry working group, who provided their specialist expertise to inform the creation of the DVS and PSS. Research has shown that Direct Vision has a vital role to play in creating safer vehicles and safer urban environments, by helping to prevent HGV collisions. The modelling that was used to develop the Direct Vision Standard has since been adopted by the European Union, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and other international bodies, and minimum requirements for Direct Vision will be required for all new vehicle designs sold in Europe from 2026, and all new vehicles from 2029. Since the introduction of Transport for London's Direct Vision Standard HGV Safety Permit Scheme, London has seen a reduction in road fatalities of 60%, whilst the rest of the UK has only achieved a 12% reduction. The European Commission expects that the DVS HGV Safety Permit Scheme (a world first) , along with other safety measures being introduced, will save an estimated 25,0005 lives by 2038. #VisionZero #DVS #RoadSafety Viz-Ovalz® Direct Vizion System #CollisionPrevention, #SavingLives

London Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Grace Period Extended by 3 Months The grace period for the London Direct Vision Standard (DVS) has been extended from three months to 6 months now with a deadline date of 4th May 2025. This extension provides more time for operators to comply with the necessary safety standards aimed at reducing road risks and enhancing visibility for HGV drivers. What does this mean for you? More time to adapt your fleet to meet DVS requirements. Enhanced focus on road safety and compliance. Opportunity to ensure all necessary upgrades are in place without rushing. It should be noted that as an operator you are still required to have the upgrade work booked in before 28th October 2024 and confirm with TfL that works will be completed by 4th May 2025. Transport for London (TfL) continues to prioritize the safety of all road users, and this extension is a positive step in supporting the industry through these changes. #Transport #Logistics #RoadSafety #LondonDVS #FleetManagement #Compliance #TransportIndustry

Major changes to London's Direct Vision Standard are planned to come into effect this October. Starting 24 October 2024, vehicles over 12 tonnes will need extra safety gear if rated below 3 stars. At midnight on 27 October, old DVS permits will become invalid. Vehicles currently with a rating of 0-2 stars must retrofit Progressive Safe Systems (PSS) to meet the new requirements. The new standards aim to improve road safety. Rest assured, all Mercedes-Benz trucks with a rating of 3 and below manufactured with General Safety Regulation equipment, which includes our latest innovation Frontguard Assist (a moving off information system)1 and Active Sideguard Assist 2 (a blind spot information system)2, meet some of the key PSS requirements, avoiding additional fitment of these systems on your newly built vehicles. Speak to your Dealer to find out more. #Roadsafety #MercedesBenzTrucksUK #DirectVisionStandard #DVS 1. Frontguard Assist (S2L) approved to UNECE Regulation 159 (MOIS) 2.
