What comes to mind when you think of Qatar Airways? Perhaps the QSuite, state funding, or a sea of widebodies. What may not immediately spring forth is the carrier's least-served routes. Of course, its a similar deal for most airlines - the least popular destinations tend to get the oldest and smallest aircraft. And, in the case of Qatar Airways, most of these least-served routes see the soon-to-be-retired A320ceo, which is hardly earth-shattering.

flydubai expands ACMI capacity due to Boeing MAX delays flydubai (FZ, Dubai International) has entered into a new wet-lease agreement with Smartwings (Czechia) (QS, Prague Václav Havel) for six B737-800s, it revealed in its 2023 annual results. The new deal, the third of its type between both carriers, is due to “ongoing challenges with the aircraft manufacturer’s delivery schedule,” which resulted in four fewer jets being delivered in 2023. #flydubai has 130 B737-8s on order. It received 13 last year, down from 17 in 2022. So far, it has taken only one of the type in 2024. CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said the airline hoped to take a further eleven by the end of the year. Libyan Express is in the final stages of acquiring an ATR 42-500 with the intent of inducting it into its ever expanding fleet. Sources close to the deal have revealed with MAviO News, that the twin turboprop should undergo maintenance checks at Medavia Technics prior to it joining the fleet. In a seperate development, Universal Air is also tantalizingly considering, to start flying on the Malta-Mitiga route in competition with Medsky Airways. The flight should operate twice weekly with sources claiming it is likely that the Q400 will ply the route on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From its end UA is keeping tight-lipped on its plans for the Maghreb country. The Libyan market has always attracted huge interest from major carriers. The latest airline to audit Libyan airports has been Royal Jordanian Airlines which is considering linking Amman with Mitiga. Special thanks to Libyan aviation expert Captain Nouman El-Ageli for his help and input with these stories. We have a new fleet leader. United Airlines now operates more seats in its fleet than any other airline. Our weekly newsletter examines the change in fleet sizes over the past year using ch-aviation fleet data. United has overtaken American in the top spot with over 175,000 seats in its active fleet — and that's just mainline. Other movers and shakers include Qatar Airways and Ryanair, while the big European airlines take a breather. But, most interesting is the mystery airline which returns to the top 20 in 2024. With an increase of over 38% in active seats compared to last year, which airline now sits at the number 17 spot? We do premium aviation research - but the weekly newsletter is free: https://lnkd.in/gbPbNStj #aviation #airlinesandairplanes

Here is a photo of #ORD's Terminal 5 from a different angle than what I usually post! I took this photo while walking through Terminal 3 when I noticed how nice the #chicago skyline looked in the background! On the left, you can see the West #T5Tower overlooking the western side of the Terminal 5 ramp. Aircraft from British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Austrian Airlines are parked at #TheNewT5 and Cathay Pacific's #A350 can be seen taxiing off of the ramp. On the right, Iberia's #A330 is parked at Terminal 3. They are one of the airlines that arrive at T5 and relocate to other terminals to depart. What do you think about this view of Terminal 5? #aviation #chicago #airportoperations #planespotting

Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube, in a recent interview with PTI, said that he doesn't think about the competition and believes that the aviation market is big enough for the company to succeed. Dube stressed that the focus is on service excellence and cost leadership and said the airline is looking to expand its network and international presence. Currently, the airline flies to Doha and Riyadh and will commence services to Abu Dhabi on July 11. Notably, it also offers a host of ancillary services, including allowing pets on board flights. "I don't think about competition and certainly don't think about it in encouraging or discouraging terms. If we focus on ourselves, the market is big enough for us to succeed," Dube said. When asked whether current competition is encouraging, Dube replied, "We don't spend so much time focused on what competition is doing unless we have things we can learn from... what can be improved upon... there is no other word than competition... good, bad, slow, fast, encouraging, discouraging, it is just competition." Notably, Akasa Air, which has more than 4,000 employees, had placed an order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The company is expected to add more than 200 aircraft to its fleet over the next eight years. #akasaair #airline #aviation #success #company #indianstartupnews
