You Are More Than Enough : The Lessons from Shamgar I am now reading the Book of Judges. I stumbled upon a character I have never paid attention to. The marauding Philistines were on a rampage raiding the Israelites. The roads were unsafe- everyone felt vulnerable. During that chaos and constant threats there arose a simple farmer named Shamgar… he became an unexpected hero. He used a simple weapon - ox goad to kill 600 battle hardened Philistine warriors. Insight 1: Start where you are. Shamgar understood that waiting for perfect circumstances would do no good. He knew that change begins with taking action from where you stand. He didn't wait for someone else to step forward; he started where he was. You can waste your life waiting for things to be different before you do something. Get started. Today is the right time and where you are now is the right place. Move forward. Take action. Start where you are. For almost last 18 months I have worked without an appointment letter. Not once have I gone to my principal to say I have no letter of appointment. I don’t disappoint because I have not been given a letter of appointment. I operate above that level. Insight 2: Use what you have. Armed with nothing more than an ox goad, a simple tool used for farming, Shamgar faced formidable enemies. Many would have found it hopeless, but not Shamgar. He recognized that success comes from making the most of what we already possess. So, with determination in his heart, he used the only weapon he had at his disposal to fight for his people's freedom. Use your skills, talent or strength you possess to make a difference. Stop focusing on what you don’t have… Insight 3: Do what you can. Shamgar fully realized his limitations, but that didn't stop him from doing what he could. He understood that even small actions can have significant impact. He fought tirelessly, using every ounce of His strength, never underestimating the power of individual effort. Shamgar exemplified the principle that every effort, no matter how seemingly insignificant, counts towards the greater good. Let Shamgar's story inspire us all to start where we are, use what we have, and do what we can. Remember, we don't need extraordinary circumstances or vast resources to make a difference. Each of us has the ability to be a hero in our own lives, communities, and beyond.
