Which we could, but I want you to know why his goal is 606. 606 was Hunter’s blood glucose when he was diagnosed with T1D on 12/31/2014, dangerously and critically high (in-range 70-140.) Signs were masked initially because he tested positive for flu just 10 days prior. Weight loss, fatigue initially and then super thirsty and frequent urination. In 10 short years we know so much more and technology has helped, making the 24/7/365 management a bit less intrusive. JDRF funded research has been a key driver for those advances including the ability to screen for autoantibodies and take a therapy that delays onset. Yes, we hit our goal and appreciate your additional support as we drive for more breakthrough advances on our path to cures.

🌍 Today is World CF Day – a day when globally we raise awareness together about the realities of living with cystic fibrosis (CF). It is a time to acknowledge the huge courage and strength that it takes to live with and manage this complex condition. ➡️ Swipe through the carousel to learn more about CF – from the impact it has on the body to the latest global numbers of people living with CF. It is astounding that there is more than 57,000 people living with undiagnosed cystic fibrosis. CF is the most common genetic condition affecting New Zealanders, with more than 600 individuals in our community living with it daily. Sheree Palmer’s life took an unexpected turn in 2008 when she suffered a spinal embolism. As a result, Sheree sustained a spinal cord injury and became a paraplegic, forever changing her life. Today, Sheree is sharing her story and experience of being part of 💥Project Spark and our eWALK* neurostimulation trial. 🌟 Tonight’s the big night! I’m deeply honored to be recognized at the Project Lyme 2024 Gala. As I reflect on my journey, I’m reminded of the incredible resilience within each of us. 🤲 Six years ago, I sat in the audience of this very event, battling tick-borne illnesses with a port in my chest for IV therapy. I envisioned standing here one day, free from the physical and emotional toll of Lyme disease—and today, that vision has become my reality. 🙏 This isn’t a story of suffering, but a story of hope. In 2020, after years of struggle and setbacks, my health hit its lowest point. I needed a cane to walk and worried about what the future held. But through persistence, exploring new treatments, and the incredible support I received, I found healing. 🌸 Today, I no longer rely on a cane, my chest port has been removed, and I’m living proof that healing is possible. 🌿 I became involved with Project Lyme to pay forward the second chance I’ve been given—to help others who are still on their healing journeys. 💚 Lyme disease is often misunderstood, but together, we can shed light on it, support critical research, and ensure that others have access to life-changing treatments. 🎤 My message is simple: never lose hope. CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) continues to be a rapidly evolving topic in health care and legislation, as we are beginning to understand the magnitude of multiple brain injuries. I feel honoured to be an alumni of BU and inspired by the ground breaking research they continue to do to help us all better understand CTE. A great read on what we now know about CTE.

Really informative pod with Dr Emma Powell talking to Nathan Walker about #CysticFibrosis Some reflections I've been pondering: - Adaptions (improvements) to provision would benefit all children, not just those with CF. - This is the same for adapting practice to be more inclusive to accommodate other needs. A more inclusive provision supports all children. - Consider how to be inclusive rather than exclusive by creating activities all children can do together, rather than creating alternatives that a few do separately. - The invisibility of CF can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. - An advantage in that it is not obvious, which helps to not highlight difference, which also prevents CF from defining the child. - A disadvantage in that it can be overlooked and the necessary adjustments are not made (or even considered) to support the child. - This can also be true of un-diagnosed need or other "invisible" needs. - To combat this, liaison with the child, family and other professionals is key. As it is with children with other additional needs. - This process helps to learn about those needs and the impact it has on the child. - This in turn builds a greater empathy and understanding of the lived experiences, particularly of the impact their actions as a teacher can have (good or bad). - Profiles of children with CF vary widely. As such, provision can't be a one size fits all (children with CF) model. - This is true of other needs such as autism, where individual differences are so varied, in addition to possible co-occuring needs. - It is of paramount importance that PE is a safe and enjoyable place. How can we promote this and prevent creating negative experiences? - What might create a negative experience for a young person with CF, that teachers may not have considered? - It is vital that people with CF are active throughout life. - This is true of all people (for similar or different reasons perhaps or to a greater or lesser extent). - It is important that children with CF do not feel "emotionally left out". This is where the build up of empathy and understanding has real value. - Why mignt other children feel emotionally left out in PE, for perhaps not fitting a "typical" mould? - How would we know? Once we find out, what can be done about it? Huge thanks for the pod.

Friends, please answer this rallying call. Johnny Rodriguez is in the prime of his life with a new wife - Cristina, a newborn son - Jet, and another son on the way -with a very cool name pending. Just weeks ago he got the diagnosis no one wants to hear. As his friend, I didn’t want to hear it either and was in denial of it upon finding out, thinking and hoping that it was a misdiagnosis and that there could be other reasons for the symptoms he was experiencing. The diagnosis is ALS and it will be cured just as all other seemingly incurable diseases have been before it, but no one has done it yet... It’s only appropriate that Johnny was an All-American Lacrosse Goalie because maybe he is just the first guy to defend the line and reverse this fate so many others could not. With Johnny’s competitive spirit and our collective efforts, we can make the seemingly impossible possible. Why not make this the new goal line to defend? The ultimate stop on what was thought to be unstoppable. It has to happen sometime, so why not now? We can make a difference in this young man’s life and the lives of his incredible family too.
