The Indian team recently spent time at a local government school to talk with students about improving environmental conservation. They gave an informative presentation on the importance of water, trees, and soil and discussed plastic consumption. The students were invited to express their thoughts creatively on sustainability. Plus, they got to enjoy sweets and received notebooks, storybooks, and stationery, all donated by employees.

In life, most of us strive to be the best versions of ourselves, and for those of us in the #recycling and #waste industry, we often try to leave the world better than we found it by doing our part to make a difference. This desire to do good is seen through acts like philanthropy, planting trees, volunteering services, leading cleanups, reusing materials and, you guessed it, recycling. However, ensuring materials are recycled properly can be challenging as recycling is not one size fits all, and the concept can be skewed due to many factors. 🌿 Today is International E-Waste Day, and this year's theme is "Join the e-waste hunt - retrieve, recycle, and revive!" This year's edition focuses on the forgotten about electronics that people have in their homes, but which contain valuable materials that could gain a new life. At CREDUCE, we believe that it's important to raise awareness about the issue of e-waste and the importance of recycling electronics. E-waste is a growing problem, and it's estimated that there will be over 60 million tonnes of e-waste worldwide by 2021. E-waste contains valuable materials such as gold, silver, copper, and rare earth metals. These materials can be recovered and recycled, which can help reduce the demand for new materials and reduce our environmental impact. We encourage you to join the e-waste hunt and help to reduce the amount of e-waste in landfills. There are several ways to get involved, such as donating your old electronics to a local charity or recycling them at a local e-waste collection event. You can also help to raise awareness about the issue of e-waste by sharing this post with your friends and family. 🤝 #CREDUCE #sustainablesolutions #greenrevolution #agriculture #nbs #ghg #esg #sdg #carbonmarket #carboncredits #carbonreduction #sustainability #climatecrisis #climateaction #climatechange #mitigation #carbonaccounting

One tree planted for every belt sold = >300,000 trees planted Today it's Earth day. Being part of the fashion industry that's inherently polluting, we are well aware that we leave an important footprint behind. When we founded La Boucle in 2018, we decided to plant a tree for every belt sold. This way, we wish to compensate for the carbon emissions, and show respect for our planet. Now, 6 years later, we have planted over 300,000 trees thanks to our collaboration with the NGO's WeForest (40,000 trees) and Trees for the Future (>260,000 trees). This means that we have planted trees on a surface of over 250ha, or 333 soccer fields. But together we do more than just planting trees... Our partner Trees for the Future shared with us their impact report for 2023. Besides funding nearly 160,000 trees last year, our contributions also helped to train 128 farmers in how to create a sustainable livelihood with regenerative agriculture. Thanks to this training, these farmers can provide for their families. This way, our contributions play an important role in the livelihood of more than 1000 people. La Boucle, not just a belt

🌍The second cause of climate change is deforestation. 🆘 Every year around 13 million hectares of forest are destroyed to meet the demand for raw materials. 🌲Sustainable forest management is essential for people, biodiversity and the climate. ✔In order to ensure responsible management of forests and plantations, an international non-profit organisation, the FSC, has been established. The FSC® label identifies products that contain wood from forests that are properly and responsibly managed according to strict environmental, social and economic standards. 👉We only use products of this brand. What about you? Have you checked whether your products come from sustainable forests? www. globalgreen. ink #forest #sustainable #wooden #prefabricated

Human Nature produces nutritious vegan foods that contribute to positive social and environmental impacts. They use lentils, peas, and other plant-based natural ingredients to produce flavorful snacks that have more fiber and protein and less fat than traditional fried crisps. 🙌 Their packaging is recyclable and any plastic use is offset through the removal of ocean-bound plastic. Human Nature tracks their climate footprint from production through distribution, works on reduction targets, and offsets emissions by planting new forests. 🌍️ They prioritize suppliers, plastic removal partners, and tree planting partners that create fairly paid green jobs in marginalized communities. 👏 Human Nature is part of 1% for the Planet and donates at least one percent of annual sales to their Planet Impact Fund. 🌎 To address climate change in our region, Solana Center relies on four pillars, the first of which is: 🏛 Protection, or the safeguarding of the rights of humans and living things to healthy environments with sufficient natural resources. How do we protect? One way is through food recovery and organics recycling consultations. 🥖 🌿 In a county in which 1 in 4 people are nutrition insecure, and a country in which 30-40% of all food is wasted, redirecting food is critical. Last year, our Environmental Solutions team worked with Hollandia Dairy and the San Diego Food Bank to get 21,500 pounds of milk donated, milk that would have otherwise gone to waste! 🥛 💚 In the past year, we've also connected the Imperial Beach School District with a nearby veterans' organization and a local meat distributor to San Diego Rescue Mission to donate their excess food. 🍎 🥪 If there are inedible parts of food, or the food is no longer fit for human consumption, it must be recycled by large food-generating businesses, according to Senate Bill 1383. ♻ That's because food in landfills lacks the oxygen needed to decompose and releases methane instead, a greenhouse gas with 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide in its first 20 years in the atmosphere. 🔥 In 2014 we worked with a local fast food restaurant to set up a composting program on agricultural land less than a mile away. The project saved them $250 per month in hauling fees, a win-win for the environment and their business! 🍟 🌱 In fact, in a survey of nearly 1,200 business sites across 17 countries, the median return on investment for food waste diversion was 14:1. 💵 📈 In the past year, we have worked with Costco to ensure they have two additional bins, one for food scraps and the other for recyclables, colocated wherever there is a garbage station in the store. We’ve also worked with Albertsons to improve their donation and organics sorting processes. Curious about food waste prevention for your business? Super interesting. Compostable packaging, cups, plates etc really winds me up. With my Let's Go Zero hat on we’ve visited several schools recently who are using single use options for lunches - I think for some schools the switch away from good old fashioned plates and cutlery happened during Covid but interestingly one school said that even before Covid the students were no longer wanting to sit and eat in lunch halls - they were all wanting things they could ‘grab and go’. All of the schools were using wooden single use cutlery and ‘compostable’ packaging (at considerable extra expense) clearly wanting to do the right thing environmentally. However, unless it’s collected in a separate uncontaminated waste stream and the school has a contract with an industrial composter (and I may well be wrong here but my understanding is that there are a very limited number of these in the country) the it all ends up in residual waste and in landfill or ‘energy from waste’. So no clear environmental benefit (although reduced demand for virgin plastic but is the creation of compostable packaging using up land that could be used for farming/nature???). Will be checking out Hubbub’s report and webinar. Would love to hear from any schools (especially secondary) that have managed to go back entirely to reusable post Covid and have resisted the move to takeaway lunch options.
Do you believe that compostable packaging will actually get composted? 🧐 Is it really a win for convenience & the environment? 🌍🥤 This one’s been 2 years in the making... We’ve been running three trials to explore how well people can identify and correctly dispose of compostable packaging 🚮 We've worked with psychologists from The University of Sheffield as part of the UKRI-funded Compostable Coalition UK project. So, should compostable packaging be used at all? 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀. Without widespread access to industrial composting, or clear evidence it will have a lower environmental impact, less packaging or reusable options could be much more effective at reducing waste instead. For all the ins and outs of the three trials and our stance on compostable packaging, dig into the full report, Unearthed, here: https://lnkd.in/dqSbVSnh 📖 And sign up to hear more in our webinar at 2pm this Thursday (link in comments). Are you using, producing or just curious about compostable packaging? 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝟯 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄. ⬇️ ++ P.S. I'm CEO of environmental charity Hubbub.
