The Superyacht Captains Forum Day 1 Programme Highlight in partnership with Yare Networking… The inaugural session of YARE Networking commences with a keynote presentation examining “State of the Market” delivered by Martin H. Redmayne, Chairman of The Superyacht Group at 09:30-10:15. Following the keynote address, the keynote YARE Debate will look to discover the following question ‘How can we future-proof the existing fleet?’ at 10:15-11:30. This panel discussion and debate will explore the key opportunities to upgrade and future-proof the vast network of yachts that still operate with conventional diesel engines and fuel, combined with energy consumption and systems that can be improved to make a significant reduction of our fleet’s impact. The final keynote YARE debate of day 1 will look to answer the question around ‘What is the future of Mediterranean yachting?’ at 12:00-13:00. Looking forward to taking part in the 1st World Foiling Congress on April 18th on behalf of the Sustainable Marine Alliance . Foiling is an interesting beast from a sustainability point of view because, on one hand, it offers improvements through improved efficiencies but, on the other, there are potentially increased impacts due to manufacturing and biodiversity risks. Therefore it’s great to have sustainability on the agenda from day one so we can navigate and reduce these risks together. ➡️➡️ WHAT'S THE PROBLEM❓ ⬅️⬅️ 🐟 Anchor dragging poses significant risks to maritime safety and the environment. Approximately 5% of insurance claims are due to dragging anchors, and one company reports that 57% of all marine claims by value involve grounding or collisions, often caused by dragging anchors. This issue affects various vessels, from superyachts to merchant ships, and has severe consequences. For instance, dragging anchors can lead to accidents, endangering the safety of the crew and passengers. 🌱 Moreover, dragging anchors cause substantial environmental damage. About 1/3 of all damage to subsea pipelines and and subsea cables are attributed to dragging anchors, as seen in the 2021 oil spill in Huntington Beach, Los Angeles. Anchoring impacts marine ecosystems, particularly posidonia meadows, which suffer long-lasting scars from heavy anchors. These meadows can take over a century to heal, highlighting the significant environmental threat posed by improper anchoring. ⏰ Current anchoring solutions are inadequate, often providing delayed or false alarms, leaving the crew unaware of real-time anchor dragging status. This delay can result in groundings, collisions, and extensive damage to the marine environment. Despite advanced naval navigation equipment, crews cannot accurately determine if, how much, and how fast an anchor is dragging in real-time. ⚓ AnchorGuardian addresses these critical issues with a disruptive, patented technology that offers real-time, fail-safe monitoring and immediate alarms with sub-meter accuracy. Final program update for the World Foiling Congress, ready to go on April 18th at Porto Antico di Genova Magazzini del Cotone The congress program has been developed to discuss the most relevant topics of a new born industry and association: Certifications, IP, Insurances, Sustainability. Registration is free. A very key industry topic will be the revision of the Recreational Craft Directive which aims to include foiling in the next iteration. This will certainly benefit the system by making certification and insurances easier, on the other side we must get it right since it will be "the law" till 2045. Very interesting to see this rational approach. While on one side we need to build the most efficient yacht as possible at the other side we must have a pragmatic approach. #enihvo is here, is available and is a drop in solution for the decarbonization of our vessels in a well to wake apprach. Yachts above 50m can look at also more pioneering solutions such as reformers etc. Smaller yacht can use the batteries to limit their emissions in certain area and do zero emissions sailing on short trips and obviously use the batteries while at anchor. The truth is that I see a lot of interesting solutions for new yachts but on existing yacht the right approach is to use the ENI diesel. Bravo to RINA for once more being ahead of the curve.
