NEWS : Special Day ! Why we all need to celebrate… 👇 It was my birthday yesterday. I only got to open the cards & presents at 10pm. Bit late I know – let’s just say it had been a full-on day. But trust me, I’ll be celebrating in style this weekend! When it comes celebrating have you ever noticed the difference between our personal and business lives ? We always celebrate stuff in our personal lives. Birthdays. Anniversaries. Passing exams. Moving house. Getting married Etc HOWEVER We rarely (if ever) celebrate stuff in our businesses. Odd that. I think there’s a natural tendency for business owners to just focus on the next priority. It’s good to pause. Take a moment from time to time to reflect on how far you’ve come and what you’ve achieved. Most businesses there will be a lot to be proud of. 🏆Doing great work for clients. 🏆Team members passing exams and/or learning new skills. 🏆Achieving sales targets. 🏆Winning new clients. 🏆Implementing new systems 🏆Receiving amazing feedback/reviews from happy customers 🏆Creating and launching new products and services I learned a few years ago from Malcolm Smith why it’s important to celebrate all the wins & successes. Not matter how big or small. I’ve known my husband for 32 years and we just celebrated our 30th anniversary this past August. He introduced me to the Green Industry while we were dating, working at various companies doing a wide range of duties, learning and experiencing a lot along the way. I always known him to be a dedicated man and loyal to his passion for doing what he loves. It wasn’t until he came home from work one day to inform me that the company he worked for had sold. We were in a dire financial situation at the time with 3 kids, our youngest only being 1 at the time. Steve thought things through before he came to me of the news. Option 1, stay with the new company and take a pay cut or option 2, start his own plant health care company. We were in pre-foreclosure already and barely had money to put food on the table so either option was a risk of us losing everything. So in 2008 with a lot of prayers and faith, we took on a new adventure and started Contender’s Tree & Lawn Specialist. I have seen first-hand the passion, knowledge and grit Steve already had working in the industry, so it was never a doubt in my mind. I believe in my husband and trust that he could start a company in the worst economic times and make it a success. Fast forward 10 years, Contender’s has become a successful 3-million-dollar company and on its way to continue growing. Then one day Steve comes home and tells me about an opportunity he was offered- to buy an existing microbe and fertilizer distribution/consulting company called Banner Sales. Absolutely!!! I believe in you, and I know you can make it bigger and better. So, we start the painstaking process of organizing ourselves to make this big financial purchase. Just one day left before we sing the loan papers, Covid hit, and everything shuts down. What a devastating blow to our morale. Fast forward 4 years, Banner Sales and Consulting is a successfully thriving company in multiple states with 6 employees. Steve Martinko has a proven record of starting with very little and turning it into something big with his years of experience and knowledge to show for it. Contender’s is celebrating 15 years of being a small family business while Banner Sales is close to 5 years under his new ownership. I love you Steve Martinko and I am so grateful that God has blessed you with the drive and passion to love what you do, also to love and tolerate me.
